Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to get a NIN for a baby or child

Children can get a NIN from birth: what NIMC needs from the parent, what happens at the centre, which biometrics are taken, and the update at 16.

The short answer

A child can be enrolled for a NIN from birth: NIMC enrols anyone aged 0 to 15 as a minor, and needs a parent's or guardian's NIN slip, the child's registered birth certificate or statutory age declaration, and the child present with a parent or guardian. Enrolment is free, the NIN follows within 1 to 5 working days, and the child is asked back to update at 16, when the e-ID card becomes available.

Who counts as a minor

NIMC enrols every Nigerian and legal resident aged 0 to 15 who meets its criteria as a minor. From 16, a person is enrolled as an adult. There is no lower age limit, so a newborn can be enrolled once the birth is registered or declared.

What to bring

NIMC lists four mandatory requirements for children:

  1. The NIN slip of the father, mother or guardian. This is compulsory; a parent without a NIN needs to enrol first.
  2. If a guardian's NIN is used, documents proving that person is the child's guardian.
  3. The child's registered birth certificate or statutory age declaration.
  4. The child, accompanied by at least one parent or the guardian.

NIMC also lists the supporting documents that can be used for a minor: birth certificate, declaration of age, school ID, NHIS ID, Nigerian passport, an attestation letter from a prominent community ruler or a religious or traditional leader, and refugee documents through the National Commission for Refugees.

What happens at the centre

  1. The officer checks the verification portal to confirm the child has not been enrolled before.
  2. You fill the enrolment form or hand over a pre-enrolment barcode slip from penrol.nimc.gov.ng.
  3. A NIMC official checks the form against the documents.
  4. The details are keyed in, and you check them on the applicant's monitor. Spelling of the child's names matters: changing a name later is a paid modification.
  5. The child's biometrics are captured.
  6. You get a transaction slip. NIMC says to return for the NIN within 1 to 5 working days, depending on network, authentication and verification.
  7. A NIN slip is issued after processing.

NIMC's minors page lists availability as Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Parents who cannot read or write should bring someone who can fill the form.

Which biometrics, at what age

NIMC's minors procedure says the applicant's biometrics are captured but does not set out different capture rules by age, and it does not say a baby's fingerprints are taken. Ask the officer what will be captured for a very young child. What NIMC does say is that the national e-ID card is not issued to under-16s, and that a text message goes to the applicant, parent or guardian asking them to come for an update at 16.

The update at 16

At 16 the child moves from the minor record to an adult one. NIMC's February 2026 Service Charter lists child-to-adult NIN migration as free. Expect the visit to include a fresh capture, since adult enrolment takes ten fingerprints and a facial image; see who needs biometric recapture. The NIN itself stays the same.

Why parents enrol young children

  • Bank accounts. Children's savings accounts often ask for the child's NIN. GTBank's Smart Kids Save page, for example, lists the child's NIN and the guardian's NIN among its documents.
  • Exams and schools. Some registrations ask for a NIN; see NIN for JAMB and WAEC registration.
  • Passports. The Nigeria Immigration Service's application starts by verifying a NIN.
  • A single record from the start, which avoids mismatches later.

Whether a child can have a BVN is a separate question, covered in can a child get a BVN.

If a parent lives abroad

NIMC's diaspora page says licensed partners enrol Nigerian adults and children abroad, and that these partners charge fees for overseas enrolment because they carry the costs. NIMC's February 2026 charter lists, for regular enrolment in African countries, US$30 for a child, and US$50 for a child in non-African countries. Families can instead enrol children free when they are in Nigeria, with a parent's NIN slip and the birth document. See enrolling for a NIN from abroad.

Corrections and fees

Child enrolment and NIN slipFree
Child-to-adult migrationFree

NIMC's minors modification page still lists the older N500 per field and N15,000 for date of birth; NIMC announced a fee review on 1 May 2025. The amount on your payment invoice is what applies. For modifications, the child's original NIN slip, the payment reference, a signed application letter and the supporting document are needed.

What to check first

  • At least one parent or the guardian has a NIN slip.
  • The birth certificate or age declaration is the original.
  • The child's names are spelt as you want them for life.
  • Nobody is charging for the enrolment. NIMC says enrolment of minors is free.

Questions people ask

Can a newborn baby get a NIN?

Yes. NIMC enrols children from age 0 as minors, with a parent's or guardian's NIN slip and the birth certificate or age declaration.

What documents are needed for child NIN registration?

A parent's or guardian's NIN slip, proof of guardianship if a guardian's NIN is used, the child's registered birth certificate or statutory age declaration, and the child present with a parent or guardian.

Do children get the national ID card?

Not until 16. NIMC says the e-ID card is not issued to minors and sends a text asking them to update at 16.

How much is NIN registration for a child?

Free. NIMC's February 2026 charter also lists the child-to-adult migration at 16 as free.
