Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Eurobonds explained: how Nigeria borrows in dollars

Eurobonds are dollar bonds sold to foreign investors. Nigeria had $18.55bn outstanding in June 2026; here is how they work, what they cost and who buys.

The short answer

A Eurobond is a bond Nigeria sells to international investors in US dollars, paying a fixed coupon and usually repaying the principal in one sum at maturity. Nigeria's outstanding Eurobonds were $18.55 billion at 30 June 2026, about 34% of external debt. Its most recent sale, in November 2025, raised $2.35 billion at coupons of 8.625% (2036) and 9.125% (2046).

What a Eurobond is

Despite the name, a Eurobond has nothing to do with the euro. It is a bond issued in a currency other than the issuer's own, sold to investors abroad. Nigeria's are in US dollars, listed on international exchanges and bought mainly by foreign asset managers and pension funds. The government receives dollars upfront, pays interest (the coupon) twice a year and repays the face value on the maturity date.

How much Nigeria owes on them

DMO data reported by Nairametrics show $18.55 billion of Eurobonds outstanding at 30 June 2026, unchanged from March 2026. That is 34.02% of the $54.52 billion external debt, second only to the World Bank's IDA. See who Nigeria owes abroad.

Recent issues

SaleTrancheSizeCoupon
November 2025Long 10-year, due 2036$1.25bn8.625%
November 2025Long 20-year, due 2046$1.10bn9.125%
December 202410-year$1.5bn10.375%

Channels TV reported that the November 2025 sale drew a peak order book of over $13 billion, which the government called its largest ever, and that it priced below initial guidance. The notes were to be listed in London and on FMDQ and the Nigerian Exchange, and the proceeds were for the 2025 budget deficit. The December 2024 line above is the 10-year tranche Channels TV cited from that earlier sale.

What it costs: a worked example

Example, using the 2036 tranche:

  1. Annual interest: $1.25bn × 8.625% = about $107.8 million, paid in two half-yearly coupons of about $53.9 million.
  2. Over ten years, interest totals about $1.08 billion.
  3. At maturity, the full $1.25 billion falls due in one payment, so total cash out is about $2.33 billion.
  4. The naira cost depends on the exchange rate when each payment is made, not when the bond was sold. If you are weighing dollar savings of your own, see saving in dollars in Nigeria.

Why Nigeria uses them, and the trade-offs

  • Dollars, not naira. Eurobonds bring foreign currency in, which supports reserves and pays external obligations.
  • Size. A single sale can raise billions in a day, more than most concessional lenders provide at once.
  • Cost. Coupons are far higher than World Bank IDA credits; compare our note on World Bank loans.
  • Refinancing risk. Bullet repayments mean large sums fall due on single dates, usually rolled into new bonds if markets are open.

Reading the yield headlines

Once issued, Eurobonds trade, and their market yield moves daily. A falling yield means investors see less risk; a rising one means more. Our piece on what Eurobond yields signal explains the price-yield seesaw.

Coupon and yield are not the same

The coupon is fixed for the life of the bond: the 2036 notes pay 8.625% of face value every year whatever happens. The yield is the return a buyer gets at today's market price. If the price falls below face value, the yield rises above the coupon, and the next time Nigeria borrows it will probably have to offer a coupon close to that higher yield. That is why the government watches secondary-market yields before deciding when to issue.

What to check first

  • The DMO's latest external debt report for the outstanding amount and maturities.
  • The size and coupon of any new issue, and whether it is being used to repay a maturing bond.
  • How much of the year's foreign-currency debt service falls on Eurobond coupons, which our 2026 budget explainer puts in context.

Questions people ask

How much does Nigeria owe in Eurobonds?

$18.55 billion at 30 June 2026, about 34% of external debt, according to DMO data reported by Nairametrics.

What interest rate did Nigeria pay on its latest Eurobond?

In November 2025, 8.625% on $1.25 billion due 2036 and 9.125% on $1.10 billion due 2046.

Can Nigerians buy Eurobonds?

Some local banks and asset managers offer access, usually with high minimums or through dollar mutual funds. Check the provider's terms.

Is a Eurobond the same as a loan?

It is borrowing, but sold as tradable securities to many investors rather than borrowed from one lender.
