Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

NELFUND money not received: account update and institution steps

Why NELFUND fees go to your school and upkeep to you, the deadlines each side must meet, and what to do when upkeep or a fee payment is missing.

The short answer

NELFUND pays institutional charges directly to your school, not to you, and pays upkeep monthly into the bank account in your portal profile, and only if you applied for upkeep at registration. If money seems missing, confirm you signed the loan agreement and GSI mandate, check your bank details on the portal, ask your school whether it received the fee payment (it must issue you a receipt within 7 working days), then raise a complaint on the portal.

Where the money is supposed to go

The first thing to settle is which money you are missing. NELFUND splits every loan in two:

PartPaid toHowWhat you should see
Institutional charges (fees)Your schoolElectronically, directly to the institutionA disbursement notice, then a receipt from your school
Upkeep (optional)YouMonthly, into the bank account in your profileA credit in your account each month

So if you were expecting fee money in your own account, nothing is wrong: NELFUND's FAQ says institutional charges "will be remitted directly to the applicants' institutions and the upkeep will be paid to the applicant on a monthly instalment basis."

If your school says it has not been paid

NELFUND's guidelines set deadlines for each side, which help you work out where the delay is:

  • NELFUND's payment to institutions "shall not exceed 10 working days" after it approves disbursement, and depends on available funds.
  • Once it pays, you should be notified by portal, email or SMS.
  • Your school must notify approved students after receiving funds: within 10 working days if it operates a TSA account, or 5 working days otherwise.
  • The school must acknowledge receipt to NELFUND and generate a payment receipt for you within 7 working days.
  • Overall, notification to you and your school should come within 30 days of a completed application.
  1. Check the portal: has a disbursement notice been issued for this session?
  2. If yes, take a screenshot to your school's bursary or the office handling NELFUND and ask for your receipt.
  3. If the school still says no payment arrived, ask it to confirm in writing, then raise a complaint with NELFUND quoting the disbursement date.
  4. If no disbursement notice exists, confirm you signed the loan agreement and the GSI mandate. Both are conditions of payment.

If your upkeep is missing

Did you apply for upkeep?

This is the most common cause. NELFUND states that students must apply for both the institutional loan and the upkeep loan at registration; "if a student only applies for the institutional loan without the upkeep, they will not be eligible for the upkeep allowance." Check your loan request on the portal to see what you selected.

Is your bank account right?

NELFUND pays upkeep "to the bank account you have provided in your profile." Check the account number, bank and name. A closed, dormant or restricted account, or one in another person's name, can cause a failed payment. If you need to change it, update it on the portal and tell NELFUND through a complaint so a failed payment can be re-sent. Keep the account name identical to your BVN name.

Has your school verified you this session?

Upkeep follows a successful verification and approval. Because you apply every academic session, a new session needs new verification. If your status is still pending, see application stuck.

What to check first

  • Loan agreement and GSI mandate signed on the portal.
  • Upkeep selected on your loan request.
  • Bank details in your profile correct and the account active.
  • A disbursement notice on the portal for this session.
  • A school receipt if fees were paid.

Refunds, overpayments and changes of plan

Money can also move back from your school to NELFUND, which sometimes explains a fee payment that appears and then disappears from the school's records. Under the guidelines, a school must refund NELFUND:

  • When a new student rejects admission after fees were paid but before the academic year starts.
  • When an undergraduate withdraws before a new academic year whose fees have already been paid.
  • Any overpayment or duplicate payment made for a student.

Schools must process these refunds within 30 calendar days. If your admission is deferred or you leave, tell NELFUND straight away: its FAQ says repayment obligations may still apply to what was paid.

Making the complaint count

When you raise a complaint from the portal or by email, include your full name as on your NIN, JAMB number, institution, session, which part is missing (fees or upkeep), the dates you expected it and screenshots of your profile and bank details. If you changed your account, say when. Keep every reply in one thread, and note the date of each message so you can show how long the problem has run if you need to escalate. For what upkeep is meant to cover, see the upkeep allowance explained.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme cannot trace NELFUND payments. When upkeep does arrive, a Personal Assistant can help you plan it across the month, and you can generate a verifiable statement through VerifyDoc.ai (receipts and statements) if you ever need to show what did or did not land.

Questions people ask

Why did NELFUND pay my school and not me?

That is how the scheme works: institutional charges go directly to your school, and only upkeep is paid to the student.

Why have I not received my NELFUND upkeep?

Usually because upkeep was not selected at registration, the bank account in your profile is wrong or inactive, or this session's verification is not complete.

How do I change my bank account on NELFUND?

Update the account in your portal profile, keeping the name identical to your BVN name, and raise a complaint so any failed payment can be re-sent.

My school says NELFUND has not paid. What do I do?

Check the portal for a disbursement notice. If one exists, take it to your school and ask for your receipt, which it must issue within 7 working days; otherwise complain to NELFUND.
