Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

MTN router vs Airtel router vs Spectranet for home internet

A fair way to choose between an MTN or Airtel 4G/5G router and Spectranet for home internet in Nigeria: coverage, cost structure and speed tests.

The short answer

For home internet, the right choice between an MTN router, an Airtel router and Spectranet is whichever has the strongest, least congested signal inside your home, then the lowest cost per GB you will actually use. Spectranet was Nigeria's largest ISP with 108,525 active subscribers at the end of 2025 (NCC data reported by TechCabal), while MTN and Airtel routers run on their mobile networks. Prices change, so compare today's plans on each provider's own site.

All three options put a router in your home and share a wireless connection. The differences lie in the network behind the router, how plans are priced, and how well each performs at your address. No single provider is best everywhere in Nigeria; coverage is street by street and indoor signal can differ between rooms. This guide gives a fair method rather than a winner.

How the three differ

ScaleNational mobile footprintNational mobile footprint108,525 active subscribers, Q4 2025 (largest ISP)

The Spectranet figure comes from NCC data for the fourth quarter of 2025, reported by TechCabal in June 2026. It counts ISP subscribers only, so it cannot be compared directly with mobile operators, whose data users are reported separately.

Cost

We did not confirm current router plan prices on MTN's, Airtel's or Spectranet's own pages for this article, so we give the method and one dated example. TechCabal reported in February 2025 that Airtel offered a 200GB 30-day plan at ₦20,000 and a 300GB plan at ₦30,000, both about ₦100 per GB. Use that as a benchmark when you read today's prices from each provider.

  • Compare the monthly fee divided by the GB you will use, not the headline volume.
  • For 'unlimited' plans, find the fair usage threshold and the speed after it.
  • Add the router price divided by the months you expect to keep it.
  • Check whether the router is locked to the provider, which matters if you later want to switch.

Speed and coverage: test before you commit

Published coverage maps show where a network has signal outdoors. What matters is the signal at your sofa or desk at 8pm, when everyone else is streaming. Before buying a router:

  1. Borrow phones or SIMs on MTN and Airtel and run speed tests indoors at your peak hour, three or four evenings in a row.
  2. Ask neighbours on the same street which service they use and how it performs in the evening.
  3. For Spectranet, ask its sales team to confirm coverage at your exact address.
  4. Check whether 5G is available at your address, and whether the router you are offered supports it.

Reading a speed test

Download speed matters for streaming, upload for video calls and sending files, and latency (ping) for calls and gaming. A connection with modest download speed but low, steady latency often feels better for calls than a faster one that fluctuates.

Worked example (illustration)

A household uses about 150GB a month. On the February 2025 benchmark, a 200GB plan at ₦20,000 gives an effective cost of ₦20,000 ÷ 150 = ₦133 per GB used. If another provider offers an 'unlimited' plan at ₦25,000 (illustrative) with no throttling below 300GB, the cost is ₦167 per GB used at the same usage. Unless you expect usage to grow beyond 200GB, the capped plan is cheaper in this example.

Questions to ask any provider

  • What is the fair usage policy, in GB, and the speed after it?
  • Is the router locked to your network?
  • How are faults reported and how long do repairs take?
  • What happens to unused data at the end of the month?
  • How do I cancel, and is there a minimum term?

If a provider does not deliver what it sold you, the NCC complaint route applies to both mobile operators and ISPs; see how to complain to the NCC.

Router placement makes a bigger difference than people expect

A mobile-network router receives signal from a mast, so where you place it in the house matters. Near a window facing the nearest mast usually works best, and upstairs often beats downstairs. Thick walls, metal roofing and burglar-proofing all weaken signal. Many routers show signal bars or a signal strength figure in their settings page; move the router around and watch the reading before you settle on a spot. Then place your devices, not the router, where you need them, or add a mesh or extender for distant rooms.

Fixed services such as Spectranet also depend on placement of their receiving equipment, which the installer should check. Ask the installer to show you the signal reading before they leave.

Keep the box and receipt for the first few weeks. If performance at your address turns out poor, a quick return or exchange, where the seller allows one, is easier than a complaint later.

Where Pryme fits

If you choose an MTN or Airtel router, its SIM takes ordinary data purchases, which you can make from the Pryme app (airtime and data). For a full cost picture, read how much home internet costs per month.

Questions people ask

Which is better, MTN or Airtel router?

Whichever has the stronger, less congested indoor signal at your address. Run speed tests at your peak hour on both before buying.

Is Spectranet still good?

It was Nigeria's largest ISP by active subscribers at the end of 2025, per NCC data reported by TechCabal. Whether it is good for you depends on coverage at your address.

Which router is best for unlimited internet?

Compare fair usage thresholds and speeds after them, not the word 'unlimited'. Check each provider's terms.

Can I use an MTN router with an Airtel SIM?

Only if the router is unlocked. Ask before buying; network-sold routers are often locked.
