Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Moving to Osogbo: what the first month really costs

A labelled first-month budget for moving to Osogbo: rent and fees, furnishing, power, gas and transport, with ways to cut the lump sum.

The short answer

In our illustrative example, moving into a one-bedroom flat in Osogbo costs about ₦1.3 million in the first month: ₦590,000 for a year's rent with agency, agreement and caution fees, ₦515,000 for basic furnishing, and the rest for gas, electricity, transport and food. After that, monthly running costs fall to around ₦175,000 in our cost-of-living example.

Why the first month costs so much more than the rest

Moving to Osogbo, whether for a state government posting, a new job, school or family, usually costs far more in the first month than in any month after it. The reason is that rent in most Nigerian cities is paid a year or more in advance, and agency, agreement and caution fees come on top, all before you have bought a bed. This guide builds a labelled example of everything a single person or couple might pay in the first month, so you can plan the lump sum rather than be surprised by it.

The housing bill on day one

There is no official rent register for Osogbo, so the rent and fee figures here are illustrative. Ask for every charge in writing before you pay, and pay to the named landlord or a registered agency, not to someone who only shows you the flat.

Housing item (example)Example amountNotes
One year's rent, one-bedroom flat₦450,000Labelled assumption; some landlords ask for two years
Agency fee (10% example)₦45,000Negotiable; ask what it covers
Agreement or legal fee (10% example)₦45,000Get a copy of the signed agreement
Caution deposit₦50,000Refundable, in writing, against damage
Housing subtotal₦590,000

Furnishing and setting up

If you arrive with nothing, basic furnishing is the next big line. These are example amounts for new, modest items; second-hand goods and family hand-me-downs can cut them sharply.

Item (example)Example amount
Bed frame and mattress₦250,000
Gas cooker and cylinder₦120,000
Standing fan₦45,000
Pots, plates, buckets and kitchen basics₦60,000
Curtains₦40,000
Furnishing subtotal₦515,000

Power, gas and utilities

Osogbo is supplied by IBEDC. Before you pay rent, check the meter: is it prepaid, in whose name, and does it work? IBEDC's feeder information tool on its website shows the feeder for a meter number, which helps you judge supply before you move in. NERC's July 2025 order for IBEDC set Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh, so ₦10,000 of tokens buys about 47.7 kWh on Band A before VAT and charges.

Your first gas refill matters too: NBS put the average 12.5kg refill at ₦22,382.20 in April 2026, as reported by NAN. Water is often from a borehole or well in the compound; ask whether there is a monthly charge for the pump. Our guide to water supply and borehole costs in Osogbo covers this.

The full example first-month total

LineExample amount
Housing (rent and fees)₦590,000
Furnishing₦515,000
First 12.5kg gas refill₦22,382
First electricity tokens₦10,000
Moving van or transport for belongings₦80,000
First month's food₦75,000
Data and airtime₦8,000
Total₦1,300,382

Check: ₦590,000 + ₦515,000 + ₦22,382 + ₦10,000 + ₦80,000 + ₦75,000 + ₦8,000 = ₦1,300,382. From the second month, the same person's running costs drop to something closer to our Osogbo cost of living example of about ₦175,000. For context, Nairametrics reported Osun's minimum wage at ₦75,554.28 a month as at April 2026, so the move-in lump sum is many months of pay for lower earners.

How to bring the first-month cost down

  • Negotiate the agency and agreement fees, and ask whether rent can be paid six months at a time.
  • Move in with essentials only (mattress, gas, a few pots) and furnish over three to six months.
  • Ask your employer about relocation allowances or a rent advance, and get the terms in writing.
  • Buy second-hand furniture from people leaving the city, but inspect it first.
  • Stay in a guest house or with family for a short period while you find the right flat, rather than paying a year's rent in a hurry.

Timing your move

When you move changes the bill. Arriving in August puts you in Osogbo during the Osun-Osogbo festival, when short stays in hotels and shortlets are in high demand, so a temporary stay while you house-hunt costs more. Moving just before school resumption adds uniforms, books and term fees to an already heavy month for families. If you have a choice, schedule the move for a quieter month, and line up the flat before you arrive so you are not paying for both a hotel and a rent deposit at the same time.

What to check first

  1. Confirm the landlord's identity and ownership before paying anyone.
  2. Inspect the meter, water supply, roof and toilets.
  3. Get a receipt for every payment, with the purpose stated.
  4. Read the tenancy agreement for the rent review and notice terms.

Where Pryme fits

If you know a move is coming, a Fixed Savings Box can build the lump sum in advance, and verifiable receipts through VerifyDoc.ai give landlord and tenant a record both can check. See also the full cost of moving house in Nigeria.
