Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Motorcycle rider's licence: class and steps

The Class A licence for motorcycles and tricycles: the ₦7,000 and ₦11,000 FRSC fees, the driving school rule, helmets, plates and state okada rules.

The short answer

In Nigeria, motorcycles and tricycles are licensed under Class A. The FRSC portal lists a new Class A licence at ₦7,000 for three years or ₦11,000 for five years as at October 2026; first-time riders must train at an accredited driving school, apply on the portal through the Motor Cycle/Tricycle route and attend biometric capture in person.

Okada and keke riders, dispatch riders and private motorcyclists all need a licence of the right class. Class A is the cheapest licence FRSC issues, but the steps are the same as for a car, including the driving school requirement. This guide covers the class, the fees, the steps and the extra rules riders face, including helmets, plates and state restrictions.

What Class A covers

FRSC's driver's licence portal offers new applicants two routes, Motor Vehicle or Motor Cycle/Tricycle, and lists Class A at the lower fee band. The Joint Tax Board schedule reported by the Guardian in October 2024 describes the same band as the motorcycle and tricycle licence. A Class A holder may ride motorcycles and tricycles, but not drive a car; that needs Class B.

Licence3 years5 years
Class A (motorcycle and tricycle)₦7,000₦11,000
Class A plus Class B (car)₦22,000₦32,000

Fees are from the FRSC portal FAQ as at October 2026, effective under the JTB schedule from 1 November 2024. Each class is charged separately, so the combined row is the sum of the two (7,000 + 15,000; 11,000 + 21,000). Payment channels may add a charge.

Steps for a first Class A licence

  1. Train at an accredited driving school that teaches motorcycle or tricycle riding. FRSC lists schools by state and LGA under Contact, then Accredited Driving Schools.
  2. Get the certificate number from the school.
  3. Apply on the FRSC portal: DL Application, new licence, Motor Cycle/Tricycle. Enter personal and contact details, choose the processing centre and three or five years.
  4. Pay by card, at a bank, by POS at the centre using your transaction number, or by NetPostPay eWallet.
  5. Attend capture in person; FRSC does not accept proxies. See what to bring to capture.
  6. Ride on your temporary licence until the card is ready, and track it on the portal.

Adding Class A to a car licence

If you already hold Class B, FRSC allows you to add Class A from another category. The portal says an upgrade may expire your current licence number and that you are charged for both classes where both apply. Plan for a new card and a new number.

Riding for hire

Commercial riders, such as okada, keke and dispatch riders, face rules beyond the licence. Many states regulate or restrict commercial motorcycles and tricycles, issue their own permits and set where they may operate. Those rules come from state laws and agencies, not FRSC, and change often. See keke and okada permits and check your state's transport ministry before buying a bike to work with. We could not confirm on FRSC's pages whether a separate commercial motorcycle class is required; ask your Drivers' Licence Centre, and note that commercial applications must be started at a capture centre with a medical certificate.

Offences riders are booked for

From FRSC's notice of offence sheet, as reproduced by Brand Spur:

  • Riding a motorcycle without a crash helmet (RMH): ₦2,000, 2 points.
  • Driver's licence violation (DLV), including riding without a licence: ₦10,000, 10 points.
  • Number plate violation (NPV): ₦3,000, 3 points.
  • Route violation (RTV): ₦5,000, 5 points.

Motorcycle plates are priced at ₦12,000 under the JTB schedule from November 2024. The full list of codes is in FRSC offences and fines.

Renewing a Class A licence

Renewal is for an expired licence, and reissue for a valid one that is lost or stolen; both use your existing licence number on the FRSC portal. Riders often let a licence lapse because the card is rarely asked for until a checkpoint. A lapsed licence is a licence violation, at ₦10,000 and 10 points, which is more than the ₦7,000 three-year fee itself. See renewal and reissue.

Worked example: a dispatch rider's first year

Example only. Sani starts a delivery business in Abuja. He pays ₦35,000 for motorcycle training (example; schools set their own fees), ₦11,000 for a five-year Class A licence (FRSC portal), ₦12,000 for a motorcycle plate (JTB schedule) and ₦25,000 for a helmet (example). Total set-up for papers and safety: ₦83,000 (35,000 + 11,000 + 12,000 + 25,000), before insurance and any state permit. Spread over five years, the licence costs ₦2,200 a year (11,000 ÷ 5).

What to check first

  • The school is accredited and trains on two- or three-wheelers.
  • Your state allows the type of riding you plan.
  • Your bike's plate and papers are in your name or properly documented.
  • You and any passenger have helmets.
  • You know the renewal date on your card and have set a reminder.

Where Pryme fits

Riders who earn daily can keep takings separate from spending. A Pryme Personal Account with a Flexible Box lets you set aside renewal and repair money, and the Personal Assistant can remind you when papers are due.
