Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Monetary vs fiscal policy: who does what in Nigeria

The CBN sets interest rates and bank reserves; the Ministry of Finance taxes, spends and borrows. How the two sets of levers differ and where they collide.

The short answer

In Nigeria, monetary policy belongs to the Central Bank of Nigeria: its Monetary Policy Committee sets the policy rate (23% as at September 2026) and tools such as the cash reserve requirement. Fiscal policy belongs to the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance and the National Assembly: the budget, taxes and borrowing. They meet where government borrows from the CBN or sells debt that competes with bank lending.

Two sets of levers

Monetary policyFiscal policy
WhoCBN, through its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)Federal Government: Ministry of Finance, with the budget passed by the National Assembly
Main toolsMonetary policy rate (MPR), standing facilities, cash reserve requirement, open market operationsSpending, taxes, borrowing, debt management
Main aimPrice stabilityGrowth, services, redistribution
How oftenScheduled MPC meetingsAnnual budget cycle

Monetary policy in practice

At its 307th meeting on 22 September 2026, the MPC cut the MPR from 26.5% to 23%, set the standing lending facility at 23.5% and the standing deposit facility at 20%, and kept the cash reserve requirement at 45% for commercial banks. These change the cost and amount of money banks can lend. See what the MPC is and the September 2026 decision explained.

Fiscal policy in practice

The government decides how much to spend and on what, how much to tax and how to fund the gap. The Debt Management Office reported total public debt of ₦166.79 trillion at 30 June 2026. Federal domestic debt included ₦19.48 trillion in Treasury bills, which the CBN auctions on the DMO's behalf, and ₦22.11 trillion of securitised Ways and Means.

Where they collide

Ways and Means

Ways and Means are advances from the CBN to the government. When they grow large, the central bank is effectively financing the budget by creating money, which works against its own inflation goal. The securitised balance above shows how much was converted into longer-term debt. More in Ways and Means explained.

Quasi-fiscal lending

For years the CBN ran development loan schemes for farmers, manufacturers and others, which is fiscal work. In December 2023 it stopped accepting new applications under these schemes, and the Ministry of Finance was to take over the development-finance role through institutions such as the Bank of Industry and NEXIM.

Competing for the same money

Heavy government borrowing through Treasury bills soaks up bank funds that might otherwise be lent to businesses, and keeps yields high. A CBN rate cut can be blunted if fiscal borrowing keeps demand for funds strong.

How each reaches your pocket

  • Monetary: a higher MPR tends to raise loan rates and Treasury bill yields; a lower one does the opposite, usually with a lag.
  • Monetary: a higher cash reserve requirement leaves banks less to lend, so credit is harder to get.
  • Fiscal: tax changes alter take-home pay and prices; new taxes on goods show up at the till.
  • Fiscal: government spending on salaries, roads and contracts puts money directly into the economy.
  • Fiscal: heavy borrowing keeps Treasury bill yields up, which helps savers in bills and makes loans dearer for businesses.

Worked example

Example only: suppose prices are rising fast. The CBN raises the MPR so loans cost more and spending slows. If, at the same time, the government finances a large deficit through CBN advances, new money enters the system and offsets the tightening. Both levers point the same way only when the two institutions coordinate, which the CBN has said it seeks in its move toward inflation targeting.

Where Pryme fits

Policy decisions reach households through savings and loan rates. Savings Boxes show the current rate in the app before you commit.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between monetary and fiscal policy in Nigeria?

Monetary policy is the CBN's control of interest rates, bank reserves and money supply. Fiscal policy is the government's spending, taxation and borrowing, set through the budget.

Who controls interest rates in Nigeria?

The CBN's Monetary Policy Committee sets the monetary policy rate. It was 23% as at September 2026.

Does the CBN control the budget?

No. The budget is prepared by the executive, through the Ministry of Finance, and passed by the National Assembly.

What are Ways and Means in Nigeria?

Advances from the CBN to the Federal Government. Large balances mean the central bank is financing the budget; ₦22.11 trillion had been securitised as at June 2026, according to DMO data.
