Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Missed a filing deadline? What to do next

Late accounts, a late tax return or a missed annual return: the first steps are similar everywhere. File, record, check relief and fix the cause.

The short answer

If you miss a filing deadline, file as soon as you can, because most penalties grow the longer a return or filing is late. Then record what happened, check whether the authority allows an appeal or relief for your reason, pay any amount due, and fix the cause so it does not repeat. An AI agent can track dates and evidence to prevent a repeat, but a person signs and submits the filing and decides whether to appeal.

First, file

The most common mistake after missing a deadline is waiting until the filing is perfect. In most systems the penalty depends on how late you are, so every week counts. File the best accurate return you can, correct it later if the rules allow, and stop the clock.

Two published examples show how lateness drives cost. These are summaries of official guidance, not advice:

AuthorityWhat is publishedWhat it shows
Companies House (UK), private company accounts£150 up to one month late, £375 up to three months, £750 up to six months, £1,500 beyond six months; doubled if late two years runningPenalties step up with lateness and with repetition
IRS (US), failure to file5% of unpaid tax for each month or part month late, up to 25%; a minimum penalty for returns more than 60 days lateThe penalty accrues monthly, so filing early limits it

Tax and company authorities in Canada, Nigeria and elsewhere have their own penalty and interest rules. Check the authority's own guidance for the filing you missed, or ask your accountant.

If several filings are late

Missing one deadline often means others are close behind, because the same gap in ownership affects every filing. List every filing due in the next three months, check which are already late, and deal with them in order of consequence. A late tax return that carries interest and a percentage penalty usually comes before a filing with a fixed fee. If your business trades in more than one country, check each country's list separately; deadlines and penalty rules rarely line up.

Then, record what happened

Write a short note while the facts are fresh: which filing, the due date, the date filed, why it was late, and who was responsible. Keep it with the filing receipt. This record is useful for three reasons. It supports an appeal if you have grounds. It answers your auditor, lender or investor if they ask. And it shows where your process failed.

Avoid rewriting history. If the cause was that nobody started the work in time, say so in the internal note. Appeals built on stretched explanations tend to fail, and an inaccurate statement to an authority creates a second problem on top of the first.

Check whether relief is available

Authorities differ in how much discretion they have. Read the published grounds before you appeal.

  • Companies House says appeals succeed only in exceptional circumstances, such as an unforeseen event shortly before the deadline. It lists reasons that are unlikely to succeed, including inability to pay, an unreliable accountant, unfamiliarity with the rules, postal delays and a director being overseas.
  • The IRS says the failure-to-file penalty does not apply if you can show reasonable cause, and some penalties may be reduced where you acted in good faith.
  • Other authorities have their own tests. Your accountant will know whether your reason is likely to be accepted.

An appeal that is unlikely to succeed still costs time. Decide on the evidence, not on frustration.

Pay, then fix the cause

Pay any tax or penalty due by the date given, even while an appeal is considered, unless the authority says otherwise; interest often continues to run on unpaid tax. Then look at why the deadline was missed. In small businesses the answer is usually one of these:

  1. Nobody owned the deadline, or ownership changed without handover.
  2. The date was known but the work started too late.
  3. Information was waiting on someone outside the business.
  4. The business entered a new country or regime and nobody added its filings.

Each has a fix. Name an owner for every filing in an obligations register. Set a start date well before the due date. Request information from third parties early. Add new filings the day you register somewhere new.

An AI agent is useful here because the failure is usually one of attention, not knowledge. It can check every date daily, remind the owner at the start date rather than the due date, and show plainly when a filing is overdue. It cannot make the judgement calls in the filing itself, and it cannot sign for you.

A worked example

Example only. A small UK limited company misses its accounts deadline by five weeks because its bookkeeper left and nobody picked up the filing. It files the accounts the week it notices, records the reason, and reads the Companies House appeal guidance. A departing bookkeeper is close to the listed reasons that rarely succeed, so the directors pay the £375 penalty rather than appeal. They then add the filing to their register with an owner, a start date three months before the deadline and a weekly reminder from their compliance agent. The following year the accounts are filed with a month to spare.

Where Pryme fits

The Pryme Business Compliance agent keeps an obligations register in which every filing carries its own clock and an honest state, so a missed deadline shows up as overdue rather than disappearing. It drafts and tracks; a person approves and submits. The Chief of Staff puts approaching and overdue filings in the morning brief. For the record-keeping side, see audit trails for AI agents.

Questions people ask

Should I wait until my filing is perfect before submitting it late?

Usually not, because penalties often grow with lateness. File accurately as soon as you can and correct later if the rules allow. Check with your accountant.

Will an appeal succeed if my accountant let me down?

Companies House lists an unreliable accountant among reasons unlikely to succeed. Other authorities have their own tests.

Does paying the penalty stop me appealing?

Rules vary by authority. Read the authority's guidance or ask your adviser. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

Can an AI agent file on my behalf?

It can prepare drafts and track evidence, but a person should approve and submit filings and sign any declarations.
