Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Lagos computerised vehicle inspection (VIS): steps

How the Lagos Vehicle Inspection Service works, what it checks on the road, the penalties it enforces, and how to prepare your car.

The short answer

In Lagos, the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) inspects vehicles and enforces roadworthiness: under the Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, a car without a valid roadworthiness or MOT certificate is impounded until you pay removal, storage and the certificate. VIS checks lamps, tyres, spare tyre, smoke, fire extinguisher and windscreen, with most defects carrying ₦20,000 for a first offence; confirm booking and the inspection fee with VIS directly.

What VIS is and why it matters

The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) is the state body that inspects vehicles for roadworthiness and enforces vehicle standards on the road. Computerised inspection means the vehicle goes through a testing lane where its condition is checked before a roadworthiness certificate is issued. The certificate is one of the papers you must carry, and the Lagos offence schedule makes the consequences of not having one clear.

We could not open an official VIS page with booking steps, centre addresses or the current inspection fee in October 2026. This guide sets out what the law's schedule says VIS enforces, so you can prepare a car to pass, and tells you what to confirm with VIS.

What VIS enforces

The VIS section of the Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 offence schedule lists these vehicle condition items, each with ₦20,000 for a first offence and ₦30,000 for a repeat unless shown otherwise:

ItemPenalty in the schedule
Worn-out tyres₦20,000 / ₦30,000
No functional spare tyre₦20,000 / ₦30,000
Excessive smoke₦20,000 / ₦30,000
Fire extinguisher violation₦20,000 / ₦30,000
Windscreen violation₦20,000 / ₦30,000
Non-functional lamps, private vehicle₦20,000 / ₦30,000, repairs required
Non-functional lamps, trailers, tankers, tippers₦50,000 and impoundment
No valid MOT certificateImpound; pay removal, storage and certificate
No valid roadworthiness certificateImpound; pay removal, storage and certificate

These are the defects an inspection lane is designed to catch, so treat the list as your pre-test checklist. The schedule also gives VIS the power to direct a driver to the Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) for training.

Steps to get inspected

  1. Contact VIS through its official Lagos State channel to confirm whether you book online or walk in, which centre to use, and the current fee for your vehicle type.
  2. Prepare the car using the checklist below. Fix defects first; a failed test costs a second visit.
  3. Take your vehicle licence, proof of ownership and insurance certificate. Check the insurance on askNIID beforehand so a fake policy does not stop you.
  4. Pay the inspection fee through the official channel and keep the receipt.
  5. Present the vehicle for testing. If it fails, ask for the list of defects in writing, repair and return.
  6. Collect the roadworthiness certificate and note its expiry date for renewal. See getting and renewing a roadworthiness certificate.

Pre-test checklist

  • Headlamps, brake lights, indicators and rear lights all working; the traffic section of the schedule also penalises missing side mirrors.
  • Tyres with tread left, and a usable spare.
  • A fire extinguisher that is charged and in date.
  • A windscreen without cracks that block the driver's view.
  • No heavy exhaust smoke; fix it before testing.
  • Seat belts that fasten, since the schedule penalises unfastened belts.

What it costs to skip it

Impoundment is the expensive part. The schedule sets towing for a car, jeep or minibus at ₦10,000 and storage at ₦1,000 a day, and a late-paid penalty doubles.

Worked example: impounded for no roadworthiness certificate

Example only, using the schedule. Your car is impounded for having no valid roadworthiness certificate. Towing is ₦10,000. It takes five days to book an inspection and pass, so storage is 5 × ₦1,000 = ₦5,000. You have spent ₦15,000 before paying for the certificate itself, and lost five days of use. A worn-tyre penalty at the same stop would add ₦20,000, making ₦35,000.

What to check first

  • The VIS fee and booking route for your vehicle type, from VIS itself.
  • That your vehicle licence and insurance are current. See vehicle papers in Nigeria.
  • If you drive commercially, the hackney permit as well. See hackney permits.
  • The expiry date of the certificate you already hold.

Commercial vehicles face more checks

If your vehicle carries passengers or goods for hire, the same schedule adds more VIS items. A commercial vehicle without a valid hackney permit or roadworthiness certificate is impounded until you pay removal, storage and the document, a commercial vehicle not in approved colours carries a ₦25,000 penalty with painting enforced, and lamps not working on a commercial vehicle cost ₦20,000 for a first offence. Trailers, tankers and tippers with lamps not working carry ₦50,000 and impoundment, and unsecured containers ₦250,000.

Fleet owners should keep a per-vehicle record of certificate dates and book inspections in batches, so that no vehicle drops out of date while others are being tested.

If you are buying a used car, ask the seller for the current roadworthiness certificate and when it expires. A car that is close to its renewal date may need repairs before it will pass, and that cost belongs in your price negotiation.

Where Pryme fits

Inspection, insurance and licence renewals come round every year. A Pryme Personal Assistant can remind you before each date, and a Flexible Savings Box lets you set money aside for car papers through the year.

Questions people ask

How much is vehicle inspection in Lagos?

We could not confirm VIS's current fee from an official page. Ask VIS for the fee for your vehicle type and pay only through the official channel.

What does Lagos VIS check?

The law's schedule lists tyres, spare tyre, smoke, fire extinguisher, windscreen and lamps, and VIS enforces valid MOT and roadworthiness certificates.

What happens if I have no roadworthiness certificate in Lagos?

The Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 schedule says the vehicle is impounded until you pay removal, storage and get the certificate. Towing a car is ₦10,000 and storage ₦1,000 a day.

Can VIS send me for driver training?

Yes. The schedule allows VIS to direct a driver or rider to the Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) for training.
