Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Keke (tricycle) business: cost, daily returns and union fees

What a keke costs in 2026, how the daily delivery model works, licence and insurance fees, union levies, and a labelled payback example for owners.

The short answer

A third-party price listing in September 2026 put new kekes between about ₦1 million and ₦3.65 million depending on brand and dealer, a range wide enough that you should get dealer quotes. Owners usually earn a fixed daily delivery from the driver; in our labelled example, ₦8,000 a day over 23 working days leaves about ₦149,000 a month after repairs, so a ₦3 million keke pays back in roughly 20 months.

What a keke costs

Keke (tricycle) prices move with the naira and with dealer stock, so treat any published figure as a guide only. A price listing on Nigerian Queries dated 22 September 2026 gave these ranges for new tricycles:

BrandNew, as listed (Sep 2026)
Bajaj₦1,200,000 – ₦3,500,000
Piaggio₦1,000,000 – ₦3,200,000
Daylong₦1,100,000 – ₦3,500,000
TVS₦1,280,000 – ₦3,650,000

These are third-party figures, not dealer price lists, and the ranges are very wide; some of the listed fairly used prices are higher than the bottom of the new range. Ask at least two authorised dealers for a written quote for the exact model, and ask what the price includes (registration, plates, first service).

Papers and fees

  • Licence. Under the circular effective 1 November 2024, motorcycle and tricycle licences cost ₦7,000 for 3 years or ₦11,000 for 5 years.
  • Insurance. NAICOM's rates effective 1 January 2023 set third-party cover for tricycles at ₦5,000 a year, with a ₦2 million property damage limit.
  • Plates and registration. Handled through your state's licensing office; dealers sometimes include it.
  • State permits. Some states and local governments require a commercial tricycle permit or restrict kekes on certain roads; check with your state transport ministry.

Union and daily levies

Keke drivers in most cities pay daily levies to unions or local revenue agents, and the amounts differ by state, local government and park. We could not find an official published schedule, so ask the union branch and local government on your route what is collected each day, and whether it is paid by the owner or the driver. Build it into the driver's numbers, because it comes out before delivery.

The daily delivery model

Most keke owners do not ride. The driver pays a fixed sum each day and keeps the rest after fuel and levies. Some owners instead offer work-and-pay, where the driver's daily payments eventually buy the keke. Either way, the delivery figure has to leave the driver enough to live on, or the keke will be overworked and poorly maintained.

A worked example for owner and driver

Example only; every figure is an assumption. A keke bought at ₦3,000,000, with delivery of ₦8,000 a day, working 26 days a month and losing 3 to repairs.

Owner's monthAmount (example)
Delivery: 23 days × ₦8,000₦184,000
Repairs and servicing−₦30,000
Papers and insurance reserve−₦5,000
Left for the owner₦149,000

At ₦149,000 a month, the ₦3,000,000 keke pays back in about 20 months. The same listing that gave the prices also claimed a keke "can remit up to ₦10,000 per day" and repay ₦2,900,000 in 3 to 4 months; even at ₦10,000 a day for 26 days with no repairs, that is ₦260,000 a month and about 11 months to repay ₦2,900,000. Be wary of payback claims that do not show the arithmetic.

Driver's dayAmount (example)
Fares collected₦25,000
Fuel: 6 litres × ₦1,250−₦7,500
Levies−₦2,000
Delivery to owner−₦8,000
Left for the driver₦7,500

Ways to protect the investment

  • Choose the driver carefully. A driver with references from a previous owner and a record of paying on time is worth a slightly lower delivery figure.
  • Agree the rules on repairs. Decide in writing who pays for tyres, chains, brake pads and engine work, and what happens to delivery on days the keke is in the workshop.
  • Inspect weekly. A quick weekly check of tyres, brakes and oil catches small faults before they become expensive ones.
  • Keep records. Log every delivery payment, with the date and how it was paid. Transfers leave a trail that cash does not.
  • Save for the big repair. Put part of each month's delivery aside, so an engine overhaul does not stop income for weeks.

For fleet owners with several kekes, see how owners track weekly pay-ins.

What to check first

  1. Whether kekes are allowed on the routes you plan to use.
  2. Written dealer quotes for the exact model.
  3. The daily levies on your route, and who pays them.
  4. A written delivery or work-and-pay agreement covering repairs and days off.
  5. A driver with a valid licence and references.

Where Pryme fits

Owners can receive delivery by transfer into a Pryme account and keep the repair reserve in a Naira Savings Box. Riders comparing options can read where okada is still allowed and a keke and bus commuting budget in Port Harcourt.

Questions people ask

How much is a new keke in Nigeria in 2026?

A third-party listing dated September 2026 put new kekes between about ₦1 million and ₦3.65 million depending on brand and dealer. Get written quotes from authorised dealers for the current price.

How much does a keke make per day?

It depends on the route, fares and fuel. In our example a driver collects ₦25,000, pays ₦7,500 fuel, ₦2,000 levies and ₦8,000 delivery, and keeps ₦7,500.

How much is keke insurance in Nigeria?

NAICOM's rates effective January 2023 set third-party cover for tricycles at ₦5,000 a year. Comprehensive cover costs more; ask insurers for quotes.

How long does it take to recover money spent on a keke?

In our labelled example, a ₦3 million keke earning ₦149,000 a month for the owner takes about 20 months. Claims of 3 to 4 months do not add up at typical delivery figures.
