Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Safety

Keeping children off your banking apps: locks and profiles

Child profiles, app locks and a separate app passcode keep children out of your bank apps. Why the PIN they have watched you type is the weak point.

The short answer

Give your child their own profile on Android, or lock banking apps with Face ID on iPhone, and make your bank app passcode different from your phone passcode. The usual weak point is the transaction PIN: children learn it by watching or find it saved on the phone, so delete any written copy and change it if in doubt.

The real risk is not hacking, it is easy access

Most parents who hand a phone to a child for cartoons or games are not worried that the child will hack anything. The risk is simpler: a child taps through screens quickly, has watched you type your PIN many times, and sometimes knows it better than you think. Stories of children buying game credits, sending money to a "friend" in a game, or simply transferring by mistake are common enough that most parents have heard one. The fix is not to watch more closely. It is to set the phone up so that the banking apps are behind a barrier the child cannot pass, even if they know your phone passcode.

Layer 1: keep the child out of your space on the phone

On Android: a separate profile or pinning

Many Android phones let you create a second user or guest profile. A child using their own profile sees only the apps installed there, with no access to your banking apps, messages or saved passwords. Look in Settings under Users or Multiple users; the name varies by manufacturer. Some phones also offer a hidden or private space for sensitive apps. If profiles are not available, app pinning (often under Security settings) keeps the phone fixed on one app, such as a video app, until your screen lock is entered.

On iPhone: lock or hide individual apps

iPhones support locking individual apps so they need Face ID or Touch ID to open. Apple’s Stolen Device Protection page lists "opening a locked app" among the actions that require biometrics with no passcode fallback away from familiar places. Long-press a banking app icon and look for the option to require Face ID. Apple also offers Screen Time controls and Guided Access, which keeps the phone on a single app.

For Android-wide settings that protect banking apps, see Android settings for banking apps; for iPhone, iPhone settings to turn on.

Layer 2: make the banking app itself hard to open

  • Use an app passcode different from your phone passcode. If your child knows how to open the phone, they should not automatically be able to open the bank app.
  • Do not enrol your child’s fingerprint or face. Every enrolled print opens every app that uses biometric login. It is tempting to add a child’s thumb so they can open the phone themselves; give them their own profile instead.
  • Hide the balance. Some apps offer a mode that hides balances on screen. Kuda’s help centre, for example, describes a Private Mode with Hide Balance.
  • Turn off "stay signed in" or shorten the time before the app locks itself, where the app offers it.

Layer 3: the PIN is the weak point

All the profiles and locks in the world fail if the child knows your transaction PIN. And children learn PINs the same way adults do: by watching.

How PINs leak to childrenFix
They watch you type it, many timesCover the keypad, or move a step away when paying
It is written in Notes, in Contacts as a fake number, or in a photoDelete it from the phone completely
It is a birthday, often the child’s ownChoose digits with no family meaning
The same PIN is your card PIN, app PIN and phone passcodeUse different PINs; see using the same PIN everywhere
You have said it aloud to an older child to "pay for you"Change it afterwards

If you are unsure whether your child knows your PIN, assume they do and change it. It takes a minute in the app.

Layer 4: limit the damage if something slips through

  • Lower your daily transfer limit so a mistake or a determined teenager cannot move much. See setting a low limit on purpose.
  • Remove saved cards from game stores and app stores, or require your password for every purchase.
  • Keep alerts on so you see any debit as it happens.

Steps for this weekend

  1. Create a child profile (Android) or set app locks and Screen Time (iPhone).
  2. Delete any fingerprints or faces that are not yours.
  3. Change your bank app passcode so it differs from the phone passcode.
  4. Change your transaction PIN if it is a birthday or has ever been said aloud at home.
  5. Delete any PIN written anywhere on the phone.
  6. Remove saved cards from game and app stores.

A word for older children

Teenagers often need to make payments themselves. Rather than sharing your PIN, consider giving them their own account or a separate pot with a small amount you top up, so they learn to manage money without access to yours.

Where Pryme fits

In a Pryme account, a separate Naira Savings Box can hold money you do not want within easy reach, and transfers need your transaction PIN. The security page explains the controls.

Questions people ask

How do I lock my bank app from my child?

Use a bank app passcode different from your phone passcode, lock the app with Face ID on iPhone, or give your child a separate profile on Android so your apps are not visible.

My child sent money from my bank app, can I get it back?

Call your bank immediately and ask it to contact the receiving bank. Recovery depends on whether the recipient still holds the money and cooperates.

Should I add my child’s fingerprint to my phone?

No. Every enrolled fingerprint can open apps that use biometric login, including banking apps. Give the child their own profile instead.

How do I hide my banking app on Android?

Many Android phones offer a second user profile, a private or hidden space, or app pinning. Look in Settings under Users, Security or Privacy; the names vary by manufacturer.
