Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bills

Which states does JED cover? Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe

Jos Electricity Distribution serves Plateau, Bauchi, Benue and Gombe. How to confirm your town is on its network and which office to deal with.

The short answer

Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) serves Plateau, Bauchi, Benue and Gombe, the four franchise states named in company statements reported since 2018. NERC's July 2025 JED tariff order also lists a feeder at Wukari in Taraba, so some Taraba communities may be on JED too; your bill or token receipt is the reliable test.

Each part of Nigeria's grid has one licensed distribution company, and in the North-Central and North-East corridor around the Jos Plateau, that company is Jos Electricity Distribution Plc. You will still see it written as JEDC or Jos DisCo. If you live in Jos, Bukuru, Bauchi, Makurdi, Gboko, Gombe or the towns around them and are connected to the public grid, JED is very likely your DisCo.

JED's franchise states

Company statements reported by Sweetcrude in March 2018 named JED's franchise states as Benue, Bauchi, Gombe and Plateau, and said mass metering had begun in all four. At the time JED had over 472,000 customers and was aiming for one million. Those customer figures are from 2018 and will have changed; the four states have not.

StateMajor towns (examples)Notes
PlateauJos, Bukuru, Pankshin, ShendamJED's home state
BauchiBauchi, Azare, MisauNamed franchise state
BenueMakurdi, Gboko, OtukpoNamed franchise state
GombeGombe, Kaltungo, BilliriNamed franchise state
Taraba (part)WukariA Wukari feeder appears in NERC's July 2025 JED order; confirm with your bill

The town examples are well-known places in each state, not a list of JED's offices. NERC's July 2025 JED order (ORDER/NERC/2025/065) lists feeders by name rather than state, and the Wukari entry is the reason we flag Taraba. We could not confirm from a JED page which other Taraba communities, if any, JED supplies.

How to confirm JED serves your address

  1. Check an old bill or token receipt. It names the DisCo and usually the business unit or area office.
  2. Ask your landlord or a neighbour where they buy units.
  3. In a bank or fintech app, start a token purchase, choose JED and enter the meter number. If your name and address appear, the meter is on JED's system. Cancel before paying if you only wanted to check.
  4. If the building has no account, visit the nearest JED office and ask about a new connection.

Which office handles your account

JED is organised into area or business offices across its four states. Your bill shows the office responsible for your account, and that is where to go for new connections, meter applications, band reviews and disputes. We could not confirm an up-to-date list of JED offices from JED's own pages in October 2026, so rely on your bill, or call JED's customer line from the channels in our JED customer care guide and ask which office covers your street.

Why it matters which DisCo you are on

  • Tariff. JED bills under NERC's JED order. Under the July 2025 order, Band A is ₦209.50 per kWh and Band B non-MD ₦63.26; see the JED tariff guide.
  • Buying tokens. You must select the right DisCo in any app; a JED meter number entered under another DisCo will fail.
  • Complaints. Complaints go to JED first, then to the NERC forum office covering your area.
  • Meters. Meters come through JED's approved Meter Asset Providers; see JED prepaid meters.

Near a state boundary

Plateau borders Kaduna State, which is served by Kaduna Electric, and Benue and Gombe border states served by other DisCos. Communities close to a boundary are sometimes supplied by a feeder from across the line. The DisCo printed on your bill is what counts, not the state on your address. If two neighbours have bills from different companies, both can be correct.

Communities without a connection yet

Parts of JED's four states, especially rural communities, are not yet on the grid or are connected through a transformer that serves several streets without individual accounts. If your community wants a connection, the request goes to the JED office for the area. Who pays for transformers, poles and cables depends on NERC rules and the specifics of the project; our guide on who pays for a transformer or pole sets out the rules. Get every cost in writing from JED before contributing money, and keep a record of who collected it.

Moving within JED's area

Accounts and meters belong to premises, not people. Moving from Jos to Bauchi, or from Makurdi to Gboko, means a new meter number at the new address. Before leaving, settle any postpaid balance and note the final reading. At the new address, buy a small first token to check that the meter number, customer name and band on the receipt match what you expect, and ask whether any debt from a previous occupant is being recovered.

What to check first

  • The DisCo name and office printed on your latest bill or receipt.
  • Your meter or account number, written down exactly.
  • Your band, which sets the tariff you pay.
  • Whether a previous occupant left a debt on the meter.

Where Pryme fits

Once you know your DisCo and meter number, you can buy tokens from the Pryme App's bills section and see the amount and charge before approving. See electricity payments.

Questions people ask

Which states are under Jos DisCo?

Plateau, Bauchi, Benue and Gombe, the four franchise states named by JED. A Wukari feeder in Taraba also appears in NERC's JED order.

Is Makurdi under JED?

Benue is one of JED's franchise states, so Makurdi customers on the grid are generally JED customers. Check your bill to confirm.

Is Gombe under Yola DisCo or JED?

Gombe is one of JED's four franchise states. Your bill names the DisCo that supplies you.

How do I find my JED office?

Your bill shows the office that handles your account. You can also call JED's customer line and ask.
