Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Is Moniepoint safe? MFB licence and NDIC cover explained

Moniepoint MFB is CBN-licensed and its deposits are NDIC-insured. Here is what that covers, the ₦2m MFB limit, and the risks it does not.

The short answer

Moniepoint's banking services are provided by Moniepoint Microfinance Bank Limited, which its website says is authorised and regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, with deposits insured by the NDIC. For microfinance banks the NDIC cover is ₦2 million per depositor (as reported in March 2026), so balances above that are not fully protected if the bank fails.

"Is it safe?" usually hides three separate questions. Is the company properly licensed? What happens to my money if it fails? And how well does it protect my account from fraud? Moniepoint can be judged on each, using what it publishes and what the deposit insurer says.

Who holds your money

The footer of Moniepoint's Nigerian website, read in October 2026, states: "Moniepoint Microfinance Bank Limited is authorised and regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria" and "Deposits are insured by the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC)." It also says Moniepoint's services are "provided by Moniepoint MFB Limited and duly licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria."

So when you open a Moniepoint account, your deposit sits with a licensed microfinance bank, not with an unregulated wallet. You can confirm any bank's licence yourself by looking it up on the CBN's list of supervised financial institutions on cbn.gov.ng; doing this before you deposit large sums with any institution is a good habit.

What NDIC cover means in practice

The NDIC insures deposits in CBN-licensed banks. Its homepage says depositors do not register or pay for the cover. The limit depends on the type of bank. As reported by Voice of Nigeria on 1 March 2026, quoting the NDIC, the guaranteed sum per depositor is:

Type of bankInsured limit per depositor (Mar 2026)
Microfinance banks (including Moniepoint MFB)₦2,000,000
Deposit money (commercial) banks₦5,000,000
Primary mortgage banks and mobile money operators₦5,000,000

Amounts above the limit are not lost automatically, but they are paid only as liquidation dividends as the failed bank's assets are sold and loans recovered, which can take years and may not return everything.

Worked example

Example only: a trader holds ₦3,500,000 across her Moniepoint accounts. If the bank were closed, the insured sum would be ₦2,000,000. The remaining ₦1,500,000 (₦3,500,000 minus ₦2,000,000) would depend on liquidation dividends. If she kept ₦2,000,000 at Moniepoint and ₦1,500,000 at a commercial bank, both balances would sit within their respective limits. Our explainer on how NDIC payouts work covers the process.

How Moniepoint protects the account itself

Licensing protects you if the bank fails. Day-to-day safety is about fraud. Moniepoint's help centre describes these controls:

  • Multi-factor authentication for instant transfers above ₦500,000 on personal banking and ₦5,000,000 on business banking, using biometrics or an authenticator app.
  • Device registration with face verification when you log in on a new phone.
  • Encryption, two-factor authentication and real-time transaction monitoring on app transactions.
  • An emergency block by USSD: someone else can dial *5573*911# and choose "Stop Debit Transactions" to block your accounts if your phone and SIM are gone.

Risks a licence does not remove

Being licensed does not mean nothing can go wrong. Three points are worth knowing.

  • Restrictions. Moniepoint can place a Post No Debit (PND) on an account for KYC gaps, suspicious inflows or a court or regulator's instruction. Its help centre also listed liens linked to a NIP processor outage on 2 October 2026 and card transfer issues on 4 and 5 October 2026. See Moniepoint account restricted.
  • Fraud recovery is not certain. Moniepoint's own fraud article says recovery "is not guaranteed" and that a police report or court order may be needed.
  • Tier limits. Lower KYC levels cap what you can hold and receive, which can stall incoming payments.

Using Moniepoint safely day to day

Most losses on any Nigerian app come from stolen codes and PINs rather than from bank failures, so the settings you choose matter as much as the licence.

  • Set up MFA before you need it. Moniepoint's help centre says to go to Settings > Security and Privacy and enable biometrics. Without a biometric phone, you can install Google Authenticator, complete Smile ID verification, scan the QR code and enter the 6-digit code.
  • Keep the block code where family can find it. *5573*911# lets someone else stop debits on your accounts using your phone or account number and your PIN, if your phone is stolen.
  • Never share PINs or one-time codes, including with callers who claim to be from Moniepoint. Its contact page routes all issues, including fraud, through its help centre request form.
  • Keep your BVN details accurate. The NDIC homepage says it uses the BVN to identify depositors' accounts, so accurate records help if a payout is ever needed.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Financial is a technology company, not a bank. Naira deposits in a Pryme account are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. The same check applies: look at who holds your money. See how Pryme works.

What to check first

  1. Confirm the licensed entity named on the provider's own site.
  2. Look it up on the CBN list.
  3. Keep balances within the NDIC limit for that bank type, or spread them.
  4. Turn on MFA and biometrics.
  5. Compare with other apps in our guides: is Kuda safe and NDIC limits explained.

Questions people ask

Is Moniepoint a real bank?

Its website says services are provided by Moniepoint Microfinance Bank Limited, authorised and regulated by the CBN. It is a microfinance bank, not a commercial bank.

How much of my Moniepoint money is insured?

NDIC cover for microfinance banks was ₦2 million per depositor as reported in March 2026. Check the NDIC for the current figure.

Can Moniepoint freeze my account?

Yes. It can place a Post No Debit restriction for KYC issues, suspicious activity or legal instructions. You can still receive money while it is in place.

Is Moniepoint safer than a commercial bank?

Both are regulated by the CBN. The main difference for depositors is the NDIC limit: ₦2 million for microfinance banks and ₦5 million for commercial banks (March 2026).
