Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to get a Carbon loan: eligibility and application steps

Carbon (once Paylater) lends through its app. What it asks for, how linking your bank account or statement helps, the steps, and what 'not eligible' means.

The short answer

To get a Carbon loan you open a Carbon account in the app, verify your identity with your BVN, complete your profile, and where asked link another bank account or share statement data so Carbon can see your income, then accept any offer shown. Carbon appeared on the FCCPC approved list reproduced on 19 April 2026 under Carbon Microfinance Bank Limited; the offer, its cost and repayment dates are shown in the app before you accept.

Carbon in brief

Carbon started life as Paylater, one of the first app lenders in Nigeria, and now runs a wider digital account. Many people still search for it by its old name. On the list of FCCPC-approved digital lenders reproduced by Legit.ng on 19 April 2026, it appears as entry 132, Carbon Microfinance Bank Limited. The FCCPC resumed enforcing its 2025 digital lending regulations on 20 July 2026 after a court ruling, so check the regulator's approvals page for current status. For the background, see Is Carbon (formerly Paylater) legit and CBN-licensed?

Who is likely to be eligible

Carbon does not publish a full checklist of eligibility rules, and its decisions come from its own credit assessment. The factors that typically weigh in its decision, and in most app lenders' decisions, are:

  • Verified identity: a BVN whose details match the name and phone number on your profile.
  • Evidence of income: regular money coming into an account you can show the lender.
  • Credit history: what credit bureaus report about your past and current loans.
  • Existing debt: how much of your income is already committed to repayments.
  • History with Carbon: how you have used the account and repaid earlier loans.

Linking a bank account or statement

A new Carbon customer has no history with Carbon. To make a decision, the app may ask to see your activity elsewhere, either by linking an account at another bank through a secure connection, or by sharing statement data. This is where income and spending patterns come from. A few points are worth knowing before you agree:

  • Read what access is requested and for how long. Statement sharing is usually read-only; it does not let anyone move your money.
  • Link the account where your income actually lands. A dormant account tells the lender very little.
  • If you prefer not to link, ask what alternatives exist, such as uploading a statement.

Our guide Bank statement for a loan application in Nigeria explains what lenders look for in a statement.

Application steps

  1. Install the Carbon app from the official store listing and register with your phone number.
  2. Verify your identity with your BVN and complete any selfie or ID check.
  3. Fill in your profile: address, employment or business, and income.
  4. Link a bank account or share statement data if asked.
  5. Open the loans section and request a loan. If an offer appears, it shows the amount, tenor, instalments and total repayment.
  6. Read the agreement. Accept only if every repayment date works for you; disbursement then follows to your account.

Worked example: a two-month loan

Example only, with an invented rate, to show the method rather than Carbon's pricing. Suppose you are offered ₦80,000 over two months at 5% per month, charged flat on the original amount. Interest is ₦4,000 a month, ₦8,000 in total, so you repay ₦88,000 in two instalments of ₦44,000. If the interest were charged on a reducing balance, month two would cost less because half the principal is already repaid: ₦4,000 in month one and ₦2,000 in month two, ₦6,000 in total. The same headline rate can produce different totals. The app's offer screen shows which applies; our Carbon interest rate explainer looks at how Carbon states cost.

Method (example 5% a month)Month 1 interestMonth 2 interestTotal repaid
Flat₦4,000₦4,000₦88,000
Reducing balance₦4,000₦2,000₦86,000

After you accept: disbursement and repayment

Once you accept, the loan is paid into the account the agreement names, which may be your Carbon account itself. Check the credit has arrived before you plan to spend it. Repayment is collected on the dates in the agreement, typically from your Carbon balance or a card or account you have authorised. Keep enough in that account on each due date; a failed collection usually adds a late charge and is reported to credit bureaus. If you repay early, confirm in the app that the loan shows as closed and keep the confirmation.

If the app says 'not eligible'

A not-eligible message means the assessment did not support an offer at that moment. The common causes are thin data, a name mismatch, overdue loans elsewhere and high existing debt. We cover each one, and what to do, in Carbon says you are not eligible: reasons and next steps.

What to check first

  • Search Carbon Microfinance Bank Limited on the FCCPC approvals page.
  • Make sure the names on your BVN, bank account and Carbon profile match exactly.
  • Know the total repayment and every due date in naira before accepting.
  • Find out how repayment is collected and what a late payment costs.

Where Pryme fits

For spending at supermarkets, eateries, pharmacies or schools, Loans on Spaces is lent by Solid Allianze MFB and can only be spent with Spaces merchants. Any limit is offered from how your account is run, and you accept the agreement before anything is drawn.

Questions people ask

What are the requirements for a Carbon loan?

A verified BVN, a completed profile with income details and, often, a linked bank account or shared statement data. Carbon makes the final decision from its own assessment.

Is Carbon the same as Paylater?

Yes. Carbon was previously called Paylater. It appeared on the FCCPC approved list reproduced in April 2026 as Carbon Microfinance Bank Limited.

Do I need to link my bank account to get a Carbon loan?

The app may ask for it, because a new customer has no history with Carbon. Link the account where your income lands.

How do I know what a Carbon loan will cost?

The offer screen shows the amount, tenor, instalments and total repayment. Compare the total in naira, not only the rate.
