Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to buy a Stanbic IBTC mutual fund in the app

Opening a Stanbic IBTC Asset Management account, paying in with your e-account number, topping up in the app, and the minimums to check.

The short answer

Open an account with Stanbic IBTC Asset Management through its Instant Account link (or a branch form), receive your e-account number by email, then pay by bank transfer to the fund’s account quoting that number; existing investors can top up through the online portal or mobile app. For the Money Market Fund the minimum initial investment is ₦5,000; other funds set their own minimums.

Stanbic IBTC Asset Management runs a range of mutual funds, from a money market fund to bond, balanced and equity-based funds. Buying one is mainly a matter of opening an investor account and paying in correctly. The detail below comes from the asset manager’s Money Market Fund page, read in October 2026; other funds follow a similar process, but their minimums, holding periods and fees differ, so check each fund’s own page before you buy. This is information, not investment advice.

Before you start

  • A government-issued ID and proof of address, which the branch form route asks for, along with a passport photograph.
  • A Nigerian bank account in your name, to pay in and to receive redemptions.
  • An email address you check, because your e-account number is sent there.
  • A clear idea of which fund you want and why; the asset manager’s site has a page for each fund.
  • Optionally, a check of the manager on the SEC’s Find a Registered Operator directory, which lists registered fund and portfolio managers.

Step 1: open an investor account

New investors have two routes. Online, use the Instant Account link on the fund page. In person, complete the Subscription Form and submit it at any Stanbic IBTC branch with a passport photograph, a government ID and proof of address. Either way, the page says the account is opened within one business day and your e-account number is emailed to you. Keep that number; it is how your payments are matched to you.

Step 2: pay into the fund

For the Money Market Fund, the page tells new investors to transfer the investment to the fund’s subscription account at UBA, named “UBA NOM FIRST TRUSTEES STANBICIBTC MONEY MARKET FUND”, using the e-account number as the reference. Cash is not accepted. Each fund has its own subscription account, so copy the details from that fund’s page or form, not from a message or a third-party site.

Step 3: top up through the app or portal

Once you have an account, the page says you can add money by transfer from your bank quoting your e-account number, or top up through the online portal or mobile app. Using the app keeps your subscriptions and your statement in one place.

Minimums, holding periods and fees

ItemMoney Market Fund (per fund page)
Minimum initial investment₦5,000
Minimum top-upNot stated on the page
Minimum holding period30 days
Early-redemption penalty20% of accrued income if redeemed within 30 days
Management fee1.5% a year
Income distributionQuarterly
Online redemptionPaid within 2 working days; daily online limit ₦2,500,000
Branch redemptionPaid within 5 working days

Bond, balanced and equity-based funds usually hold investments that move more in price, which is why their minimum holding periods and charges are often different. Read the fund page and the latest factsheet for the fund you choose.

Worked example: subscribing and leaving early

Example only. Chidi puts ₦200,000 into the Money Market Fund and needs it back after 20 days, when his account shows ₦2,400 of accrued income. Because he is inside the 30-day holding period, 20% of the income is deducted: ₦2,400 × 20% = ₦480. He receives ₦200,000 + ₦2,400 − ₦480 = ₦201,920. Waiting another 10 days would avoid the penalty.

Redeeming when you need the money

For the Money Market Fund, online redemption through the web portal or app pays to your nominated bank account within two working days, with a daily online limit of ₦2,500,000; the page says it is available for individual and joint accounts once a signed consent form is in place. Larger sums, or redemptions without online access, go through a branch redemption form and are paid within five working days. If you know a bill is coming, start the redemption early enough to cover the working days, and split a large redemption across days if it is above the online limit.

Choosing between funds

Start from when you will need the money. A money market fund suits short-term money and emergency savings because it holds short instruments such as Treasury bills and commercial paper. A bond fund is for longer horizons and can fall in price when interest rates rise. Equity-based funds suit money you will leave for years. Our guide to money market funds in Nigeria explains the short end, and the Stanbic IBTC Money Market Fund explained goes deeper on that fund. For the question of a fund versus a deposit, see fixed deposit vs savings account.

Where Pryme fits

You can pay a fund subscription from any Nigerian bank account in your name, including a Pryme account; send it with Pryme Send and quote your e-account number exactly. For goal savings in naira alongside a fund, Pryme’s Savings Boxes show their rates in the app before you commit.
