Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Hotel and shortlet prices in Owerri: weekends, events, December

How Owerri hotel and shortlet rates move between weekdays, weekends, wedding seasons and December, with labelled examples and how to book and pay safely.

The short answer

Owerri hotel and shortlet prices follow demand: weekday rates are lowest, weekends rise with weddings and nightlife, and December is the peak because of the Christmas return. There is no official price index, so compare current rates on the property's own channels and booking sites. Book early for events, get the rate and refund terms in writing, and pay only into an account in the property's business name.

Owerri has a large hospitality sector for a city of its size, from small guest houses to bigger hotels and a growing number of furnished shortlet flats. For visitors, the price you pay depends less on the property than on the date. This guide explains the pattern and shows example budgets, labelled as examples because no official source publishes Owerri room rates.

How prices move through the year

PeriodDemandWhat tends to happen to rates
Weekdays (Mon to Thu)Business travellers, government visitorsLowest rates; discounts easier to negotiate for longer stays
WeekendsWeddings, burials, parties and leisure visitorsHigher rates; some properties require two-night minimums
Big events and graduationsMany guests arriving for the same daysRooms near the venue fill first; prices rise for those dates
Mid-December to early JanuaryChristmas return and new yearPeak rates; some shortlets quote special December prices and longer minimum stays
Late January to MarchQuieter periodGood time to negotiate weekly or monthly rates

Example budgets

A shortlet can work out cheaper per person for a family or group, because two bedrooms and a kitchen replace two hotel rooms and restaurant meals. A hotel gives you a front desk, security staff, and often generator power and breakfast included. Compare on the total, not the nightly rate.

Costs people forget

  • Caution deposits on shortlets, and how and when they are refunded. See shortlet caution deposits.
  • Diesel or power charges added to shortlet bills when grid supply is low.
  • Service charges and VAT on hotel bills: ask whether the quoted rate includes them.
  • Transport between the property and the event venue.

Location matters too. Rooms close to popular nightlife, event centres and the city's main roads fill first on weekends and in December, while properties a short ride away often keep weekday-style rates longer. If your event is fixed, book near it early; if not, a slightly further property with transport added can cost less overall.

Booking safely

  1. Find the property's phone number independently, from its own website, signboard or a booking site, and call to confirm it exists and has availability.
  2. Ask for the rate, dates, what is included and the cancellation policy in writing (email or WhatsApp from the property's number).
  3. Pay only into an account whose name matches the hotel or the shortlet business. Be cautious of an individual's account, especially when the 'manager' is a stranger on social media.
  4. Pay a deposit to hold the booking, not the full stay, unless the property's written terms require it.
  5. On arrival, inspect the room before paying the balance, and photograph any damage before using it.

Shortlet booking fraud is the most common complaint in this area: an attractive flat, a quick deposit, and then silence. Read money scams in Owerri before paying a page you found on social media. If you are defrauded, report it to your bank at once and to the police, including through the NPF-NCCC e-reporting portal.

For hotel and shortlet owners

If you run rooms in Owerri, the same seasonal pattern shapes your year. A few practices protect both revenue and reputation.

  • Publish your December rates and minimum stays early, in writing, so guests are not surprised and disputes are rare.
  • State the caution deposit, what it covers and when it is refunded, and refund it promptly by transfer.
  • Use one business account for all guest payments, in the business name, so guests can check it matches the property. This also protects your brand from impostor pages using your photos.
  • Watch social media for copies of your listing and report them to the platform; tell past guests which account and phone number are genuine.
  • Fill quiet weekdays with longer-stay discounts for business visitors and contractors.

For more, see direct bookings vs booking sites.

For travellers on a budget

  • Arrive on a weekday and leave before the weekend if your trip allows.
  • Ask for a weekly rate rather than seven nightly rates.
  • Stay a little further from the venue and budget for keke or taxi rides; see transport fares in Owerri. NBS put the national average city bus fare at ₦1,431.25 in May 2026, which gives a sense of a single local trip.

Where Pryme fits

Paying a hotel or shortlet by transfer from a Pryme account leaves a dated record, and you can generate a verifiable receipt or statement through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai if an employer or a dispute needs proof (see receipts). Property owners with a Pryme Business Account can take guest payments through bank-transfer checkout free of charge.

Questions people ask

How much is a hotel in Owerri per night?

It depends on the property and the date. Weekdays are cheapest, weekends higher and December the peak. Compare current rates on the property's own channels and booking sites.

Are shortlets in Owerri cheaper than hotels?

For a family or group, a shortlet can cost less per person. Add the caution deposit, power charges and transport before comparing.

How do I avoid shortlet scams in Owerri?

Confirm the property independently, get terms in writing, and pay only into an account in the business's name, ideally a deposit first.

When should I book a hotel in Owerri for December?

As early as possible, ideally by October or November, because rooms near popular areas fill and prices rise as December approaches.
