Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Hospitals in Makurdi and how the Benue health scheme BSHIS works

BSUTH, FMC Makurdi and private hospitals, and what is on record about the Benue State Health Insurance Scheme: who it targets, how to enrol, what you pay.

The short answer

Makurdi's main public referral hospitals are the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Makurdi, alongside many private hospitals and clinics. Benue's state health insurance scheme was created under the Benue State Health Management Agency Law 2018 to cover residents of the state; civil servants were to contribute 5% of salary and federal funds were aimed at vulnerable groups, according to 2021 reports, so ask the agency or your employer how you are enrolled today.

Where people in Makurdi go for care

Health care in Makurdi runs on three levels, as it does across Nigeria. Primary health centres handle routine care, immunisation and antenatal visits. Secondary hospitals and private clinics handle most admissions and minor surgery. Tertiary hospitals take referrals for specialist care.

  • Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH): the state-owned teaching hospital in Makurdi.
  • Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Makurdi: the federal tertiary hospital in the city.
  • Private hospitals and clinics: numerous across the city, varying widely in size, price and services.
  • Primary health centres: spread across the city and state, overseen by the Benue State Primary Health Care Board.

We have not listed services, consultation fees or opening hours for individual hospitals because we could not confirm them from the hospitals' own pages. Call ahead, especially for specialist clinics, and ask what you will pay at the first visit.

What is on record about the Benue health insurance scheme

Residents search for it as BSHIS, BNSHIS or the Benue health insurance scheme. Here is what the sources we could open say, with their dates:

DateWhat was reportedSource
2018The Benue State Health Management Agency Law established the agency and a Benue Health Insurance Scheme covering all residents of the statePolicy Vault summary of the law
March 2021The Benue State Health Insurance Scheme (BNSHIS) was being rolled out; civil servants to contribute 5% of salary and local councils 25% of their income; about ₦485 million in federal funds for children under five, widows, people with disabilities, pregnant women and the agedThe Guardian
December 202115,000 poor and vulnerable people shortlisted across council wards in all 23 LGAs, with cover due to start in February 2022THEWILL

We could not confirm from an official page in October 2026 the current premium for individuals and families outside the civil service, the list of accredited hospitals, or the benefit package. Those details may have changed since 2021, so treat the table as background and confirm the current position directly.

The names differ between the law and press reports: the 2018 law speaks of a health management agency and a Benue Health Insurance Scheme, while 2021 reports use Benue State Health Insurance Scheme. When you visit or call, ask for the state health insurance office and quote both names if staff are unsure.

How to find out if you are covered, and enrol

  1. State civil servants: ask your HR or salary office whether a health insurance deduction appears on your payslip and which hospital you are registered with.
  2. Federal workers: the state scheme may not be the one that covers you; ask HR which health insurance arrangement applies and which hospital you are registered with.
  3. Private sector and self-employed: visit the state health insurance agency office in Makurdi and ask about individual and family plans, the premium, the waiting period and the accredited facilities near you.
  4. Vulnerable groups: pregnant women, children under five, older people and people with disabilities should ask at the nearest primary health centre whether they can be enrolled under a funded programme.

What you may still pay

Even with health insurance, Nigerian schemes commonly leave some costs with the patient. Before treatment, ask the hospital:

  • Is this service in my benefit package, or excluded?
  • Is there a co-payment for drugs or tests?
  • If a drug is out of stock and I buy it outside, can I claim it back?
  • Do I need a referral code before seeing a specialist?

Paying hospital bills in practice

Many private hospitals, and some public ones, ask for a deposit before admission or surgery. Families who are not prepared can lose valuable time arranging money. A few habits help:

  • Ask for an estimate before planned treatment, and for an itemised bill at discharge.
  • Pay by transfer or card where possible, and keep every receipt; you need them for any insurance or employer claim.
  • For an insured patient, confirm the referral or authorisation code before the hospital begins billing you privately.
  • Keep a list of drugs bought outside the hospital, with receipts, in case they can be claimed.
  • If you think you were overcharged at a private facility, raise it in writing with the hospital first.

Emergencies

The National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) promotes 112 as a toll-free emergency medical line, but a Voice of Nigeria report in August 2026 listed Benue among the states where the line was not yet operational. Save the numbers of your nearest hospital's emergency unit and a private ambulance service, and keep some money accessible for emergencies.

Where Pryme fits

Medical costs are easier to meet from a fund set aside for them. You can keep an emergency fund in a Flexible Savings Box in the Pryme app so it is available when needed (Savings Boxes; see also how big your emergency fund should be), and a Personal Assistant can remind you of premium or clinic payments for your approval. For budgeting, see the Makurdi family budget.
