You are not borrowing. You are selling to somebody who already has the money — and that money can only be spent with a business like yours.

Resolved 4 conversations — two deliveries, one refund. The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.
An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.
A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.
Solid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.
More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Salary, base plus commission or a revenue split: how Nigerian gyms can pay trainers, with labelled naira examples and the tax and labour rules.
There is no legal rule that a Nigerian gym must pay trainers by salary or by commission; the choice is commercial, but each structure carries different duties. An employed trainer is covered by the Labour Act, PAYE and, once you have three or more staff, pension contributions, while a self-employed trainer paid a fee or revenue share is usually handled through a written contractor agreement and, where it applies, withholding tax.
Most gym owners in Nigeria end up mixing three models: trainers on a fixed monthly salary who also run classes, trainers on a small base pay plus commission on personal-training sessions, and independent coaches who use the floor and share what their clients pay. None is right for every gym. The best fit depends on how predictable your membership income is, how much control you want over the trainer’s hours and clients, and how much paperwork you are ready to run each month.
| Structure | How the trainer earns | Who carries the risk of a slow month | Typical paperwork |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed salary | Same pay every month for set hours and duties | The gym | Employment terms, PAYE, pension if 3+ staff |
| Base plus commission | Smaller fixed pay plus a share of each paid session or package | Shared | Employment terms, a written commission scheme, PAYE on the total |
| Revenue split or floor fee (independent) | Trainer keeps most of the client fee and pays the gym a share or a fixed fee | The trainer | Contractor agreement, invoices, withholding tax where it applies |
Salaried trainers suit gyms that need someone on the floor at fixed times, running group classes and keeping the place in order. Commission motivates trainers to sell personal-training packages but can lead to pressure selling if the scheme rewards volume alone. Independent arrangements suit established coaches who bring their own clients, but you give up control over how they run their sessions.
The figures below are examples only, chosen to show the arithmetic. Assume the gym charges ₦10,000 per personal-training session.
The pattern is the point: a salary gives the trainer certainty and leaves the gym exposed in slow months, while a split moves that risk to the trainer. Base plus commission sits in between, which is why many gyms land there. Run your own figures with your real session price and a realistic range of monthly sessions, including the January rush and the quieter months.
The Labour Act sets duties that apply whatever the pay structure, as long as the person is a worker under the Act. Points that matter for gyms:
The national minimum wage was raised to ₦70,000 a month in July 2024, according to SCP Law’s summary of the 2024 Act, which also lists the exemptions carried over from the earlier Act. If you use a low base plus commission, check that the structure meets the Act for your gym. Pay-As-You-Earn tax is deducted on the full pay, commission included; see Nigeria PAYE tax bands for 2026. PenCom states that the Pension Reform Act covers private employers with three or more employees; read pension contributions in Nigeria for the rates.
Calling someone a contractor does not make them one. If you set their hours, require them to work only for you, give them a uniform and roster, and they cannot send a substitute, the relationship looks like employment whatever the paper says. A real independent coach usually sets their own schedule, brings their own clients, sets or agrees their own prices and invoices you or pays you.
Where a company pays an independent trainer for services, withholding tax may apply. PwC’s summary of the 2024 Withholding Regulations lists 2% for “other services” and 5% for professional fees for resident individuals, with small companies not required to deduct where the transaction is under ₦2 million and the vendor has a valid TIN. The rates were set before the 2025 tax laws took effect, so confirm with your tax adviser. Our guide to withholding tax on invoices covers the receipts you must issue.
Gyms that pay salon-style splits will find the same questions in paying salon staff: salary, commission or chair rental.
A Pryme Business Account can run payroll for salaried and commission staff and send trainer payments in one batch through bulk payouts. The Finance agent can prepare the monthly commission statement from your session records; a person approves anything above the ceiling you set, and each step is recorded.
If the trainer is your employee, check the arrangement against the National Minimum Wage Act and the Labour Act; SCP Law’s summary lists commission workers among the exemptions carried from the earlier Act, but take advice for your case. A self-employed trainer on a revenue share is a different relationship.
There is no official rate. It is agreed between the gym and the trainer. The 30% and 40% figures in this article are examples to show the arithmetic.
If your gym is a company paying for services, withholding tax may apply. PwC’s summary of the 2024 rules gives 2% for other services and 5% for professional fees for resident individuals, with a small-company exception under ₦2 million.
The Labour Act bars deductions for fines, and caps total deductions at one-third of a month’s wages. Use a disciplinary process instead.
