Ten years, one trunk

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Getting paid through Deel as a contractor in Nigeria

How Deel contractor pay reaches Nigeria: the withdrawal methods and fees Deel lists, what a $2,000 payment becomes on each, and who pays what.

The short answer

Deel holds a contractor's pay in a Deel balance, and you choose how to withdraw it. Deel's help page (updated 4 Sep 2026) lists local bank transfer at $0, SWIFT at $5–$10, Payoneer at 1% (minimum $12) and PayPal at 2.5%, among others, and warns that not every method is available in every country and that currency conversion carries its own fees.

If a foreign company hires you as a contractor through Deel, your client pays Deel, and Deel pays you. The client's fees are between them and Deel. What falls on you is the cost of moving money out of your Deel balance, plus any currency conversion. Deel publishes those costs on its help centre, which is unusual and useful. Here is what it says, and how to choose.

How the money flows

  1. You submit work or an invoice according to your contract; your client approves and pays.
  2. Deel credits your Deel balance. Deel's page says the balance updates each time the client pays.
  3. You withdraw by a method you choose, manually or automatically. You can set automatic withdrawals to less than 100% of earnings and leave the rest in the balance.

Withdrawal methods and fees Deel lists

From Deel's contractor withdrawal page, updated 4 Sep 2026:

MethodFee stated by Deel
Local bank transfer$0
Cross-border (bank in a country other than your profile country)$5
International/SWIFTFrom $5, capped at $10 (intermediary fees may be extra)
Instant card transfer2%, maximum $15
Payoneer1%, minimum $12
PayPal2.5%, minimum $0.25
Wise, Revolut, Deel Card$0
Coinbase crypto (BTC, ETH, SOL, DASH)1.5%
Coinbase USDC$5 flat under $300; 1.6% above
AstroPay0.75%
Digital currency (USDC, USDT)2% plus $1 network fee

Two caveats from the same page matter for Nigeria. First, not all methods are available in all jurisdictions, and not all are supported for every currency; your withdrawal screen shows what you can use. Nigerian naira appears in Deel's supported currencies table. Second, if you withdraw in a currency other than your contract currency, exchange fees and rates apply, and the rate can move between request and arrival. Deel does not state that margin as a figure.

Worked example: a $2,000 payment

Example only, assuming each method is available to you and the contract is in US dollars. Figures show Deel's stated fee and what is left in dollars before any conversion or receiving-bank charge.

MethodFeeLeft
Local bank transfer to a naira account$0 (exchange rate applies)$2,000 converted at Deel's rate
SWIFT to a domiciliary account$5 to $10$1,990 to $1,995, less any intermediary fee
Payoneer1% = $20$1,980
Instant card transfer2% = $40, capped at $15$1,985
Digital currency2% + $1 = $41$1,959
PayPal2.5% = $50$1,950

The cheapest-looking line, local bank transfer at $0, hides the conversion. To compare it fairly, look at the naira amount Deel shows, then compare with what you would get by withdrawing dollars and converting elsewhere. On large payments, a small rate difference can outweigh a $10 fee.

Who pays what

Your client
Pays Deel's charges for using the platform, under its own agreement with Deel.
You
Pay the withdrawal fee for your chosen method and any conversion cost.
Banks in between
On SWIFT, Deel says intermediary fees may be deducted from the amount received and it cannot predict them.

A US client may ask you for Form W-8BEN. The IRS describes it as a certificate of foreign status given to the payer or withholding agent when asked, not filed with the IRS. It is about US tax; your Nigerian tax position is separate. Residents of Nigeria are taxed on worldwide income, including foreign freelance income, per a BusinessDay explainer on the Nigeria Tax Act 2025. See tax on dollar income.

Contractor terms: what to read before you sign

Deel handles payment, but your contract with the client sets the terms. Before you accept, read for these points, because they decide when and how much you are paid:

  • Currency. A contract in US dollars means conversion is your choice later; a contract in naira fixes the conversion at the client's end.
  • Payment cycle. Monthly, per milestone, or per approved invoice. Know the date you can expect money in your balance.
  • Approval. Who approves your work or time, and what happens if they do not respond.
  • Termination and notice. How much notice either side gives, and whether work in progress is paid.
  • Expenses. Whether internet, power or equipment costs are reimbursed, or included in your rate.

Keep a copy of the signed contract and each invoice outside Deel as well. If you later need proof of income for a visa, a landlord or a loan, these documents, with your withdrawal statements, show a steady record.

What to check first

  • Which methods your Deel withdrawal screen shows for a Nigerian profile.
  • The naira amount quoted on a local bank withdrawal, against an alternative.
  • That your bank name and Deel name match.
  • Whether you need the money now; Deel lets you leave part in the balance.

Where Pryme fits

If Deel can send to USD account details you hold, a Pryme account keeps the dollars as dollars, and Swap shows the rate before you approve any conversion. Check Deel's methods for your profile first. For other routes, see working for a foreign company from Nigeria.

Questions people ask

How do I withdraw from Deel in Nigeria?

Open your Deel balance, choose a withdrawal method your screen shows for Nigeria, and confirm. Deel lists fees from $0 (local bank) to 2.5% (PayPal), as at Sep 2026.

Does Deel pay in naira?

Naira is in Deel's supported currencies table. If your contract is in dollars, converting to naira carries Deel's exchange fees and rate.

What is the Deel withdrawal fee to Payoneer?

1%, with a $12 minimum, per Deel's help page updated 4 Sep 2026.

Do Deel contractors in Nigeria pay tax?

Residents of Nigeria are taxed on worldwide income, including contractor pay. Deel does not deduct Nigerian tax for contractors in the sources we read; file your own return.
