Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to get a First Bank POS (Firstmonie agent) and the cost

What FirstBank says about becoming a Firstmonie agent: the free POS, services, earnings, Agent Credit costs, and what to confirm before you sign up.

The short answer

To get a FirstBank POS you become a Firstmonie agent; FirstBank's agent banking page says the POS device is provided free of charge with free outlet branding, and agents earn commissions, including on each account they open. The page does not publish eligibility rules, documents, a minimum float or settlement times, so confirm those with FirstBank before you start; once active for three months, agents can be offered Agent Credit of up to ₦1 million at 0.3% flat, per the bank's FAQ.

Agent banking lets shops, kiosks and small businesses offer basic banking to their neighbourhood: cash in, cash out, transfers and bills. FirstBank's network is called Firstmonie. If you want a FirstBank POS terminal for your shop, this is usually the route. This guide sets out what FirstBank publishes about joining, what it costs, how agents earn, and the questions to ask before you commit. It was checked against FirstBank's pages in October 2026.

What FirstBank offers agents

POS device
Provided free of charge.
Branding
Free outlet branding: outdoor paint, a certificate, a banner and a dangler.
Earnings
FirstBank's page says agents can 'earn up to 100k or more monthly', without explaining how; treat it as marketing, not a forecast.
Commissions
Paid on each account an agent opens; the page lists 'Swift Pay Back' without a timeframe.
Working capital
Support available, subject to terms and conditions.

Source: FirstBank Firstmonie Agent Banking page, accessed October 2026.

What agents can offer customers

  • Opening FirstBank accounts
  • Cash deposits
  • Cash withdrawals, including for customers of other banks
  • Transfers to any bank
  • Bill payments
  • Airtime
  • BVN enrolment

What the page does not tell you

FirstBank's agent page does not list eligibility criteria, documents, a minimum float or caution deposit, commission rates per transaction, or settlement times. These are the figures that decide whether the business pays. Ask FirstBank, at a branch or through FirstContact, for each in writing:

  1. Who can apply, and whether an unregistered sole trader can, or a CAC registration is needed.
  2. Documents required: typically ID, proof of address and business details, but confirm the list.
  3. Whether any deposit, float or caution fee is required for the device, and whether the 'free' device must be returned if you stop.
  4. The commission on each service, such as withdrawals, transfers and bills, and how it is paid.
  5. How fast your wallet is settled after a transaction, and what happens if a transaction fails.
  6. Any monthly minimum activity before the device can be withdrawn.

Agent Credit: borrowing for float

Agents need cash on hand to pay out withdrawals. FirstBank's FAQ describes Agent Credit for Firstmonie agents. These are the terms as the FAQ states them:

TermFirstBank FAQ
How to applyThrough the Firstmonie App, using the ADMIN PIN
MaximumUp to ₦1 million, subject to 25% of your daily average credit turnover
EligibilityActive agent for at least three months; one account per BVN
Interest0.3% flat on the principal
Insurance₦1,000 per year
Tenor24 hours on weekdays; up to 72 hours or the next working day at weekends and public holidays

An offer depends on your turnover, and you choose whether to accept it. The 0.3% is a flat charge per loan, not an annual rate; because loans last only a day or so, the annualised cost of borrowing repeatedly is far higher, so use it for float you will recover the same day.

Worked example

Example only. Your average daily credit turnover is ₦600,000, so 25% would allow up to ₦150,000. You accept a ₦150,000 offer on a Tuesday. Interest at 0.3% flat is 150,000 × 0.003 = ₦450, repaid within 24 hours: ₦150,450. If you do this on 20 working days in a year, interest totals 20 × ₦450 = ₦9,000, plus the ₦1,000 annual insurance, ₦10,000 in all. Check the terms in the app before accepting; they may have changed since the FAQ was written.

Running the outlet day to day

  • Float. Keep both cash and wallet balance. Withdrawals drain your cash and fill your wallet; deposits do the reverse. Plan when you will rebalance at a bank.
  • Records. Keep a daily log of each transaction and the commission earned, and reconcile it with the statement.
  • Failed transactions. If a customer is debited but the terminal shows failure, do not pay out cash again from your own pocket; record the reference and report it through FirstBank's agent support.
  • Security. Do not keep large amounts of cash visible, and never let a customer enter your agent PIN.
  • Charges. Display what you charge customers clearly, so they know the cost before they pay.

Is it worth it?

Agent income depends on footfall, cash supply and competition. A busy location with few agents nearby and reliable cash can earn steadily; a quiet street with three POS stands already will struggle. Count the agents near you, ask a few what volume they see, and remember that commission per transaction is small, so volume matters. For the trade-off between POS and transfer payments in your own shop, see POS terminal vs bank transfer.

Where Pryme fits

If you want to take payments for your own goods rather than run an agent business, Pryme's bank-transfer checkout is free, and a business in a supported sector with a Pryme Business Account can join Spaces. See checkout and Spaces.
