Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

First Bank fixed deposit: minimum, tenors and how to open

What First Bank publishes about its naira fixed deposit, what only a branch can confirm, and how to book one without surprises.

The short answer

First Bank does not publish a naira fixed deposit rate card, minimum or tenor list on the pages we could read in October 2026; a third-party comparison from July 2024 put the minimum at ₦10,000. The tenor and rate are agreed when you book, and at the end of the period the deposit is either rolled over or paid out with interest, so confirm all three in writing at a branch or through FirstContact.

What First Bank itself says

FirstBank of Nigeria is one of the country's largest deposit money banks, and a fixed deposit there works the way it does at most Nigerian banks: you place a lump sum for an agreed period, the bank fixes a rate for that period, and you get the principal and interest back at the end. What is unusual is how little of this First Bank puts in writing on its public site. The bank's website blocked several of our requests in October 2026, and the pages we could read, including its FAQs, describe domiciliary products in detail but say nothing specific about a naira fixed deposit minimum, tenor menu or rate.

The FAQs do describe one term product in foreign currency: FirstDom, which needs a minimum of $5,000, €5,000 or £3,000 and pays tiered rates by balance. If you were searching for a dollar fixed deposit at First Bank, that is the product to ask about; our guide to dollar fixed deposits at Nigerian banks covers it alongside other banks.

The figures in circulation, and how far to trust them

Because the bank is silent, most of what Nigerians read about First Bank fixed deposits comes from comparison sites. Two articles on nairaCompare are the most cited:

TermWhat the source saysSource and dateHow to treat it
Minimum deposit₦10,000nairaCompare, 13 Jul 2024Third-party and over two years old; confirm at booking
Tenor"An agreed fixed period", no menu givennairaCompare rate guide, page dated Apr 2023Ask which tenors the branch will book
At maturityRolled over or liquidated with interestnairaCompare rate guideConsistent with normal practice; set your instruction
RateNot stated for First BankBoth articlesQuoted on the day for your amount and tenor

The 2024 article itself warns that minimums "may change over time", and it quotes an NDIC limit of ₦500,000 that has since been raised, which tells you how quickly such pages age. Use the ₦10,000 figure as a starting question for the branch, not as a promise.

How to open a First Bank fixed deposit

  1. Have an active First Bank savings or current account in your name; the deposit is normally funded from it.
  2. Contact your branch, your account officer or FirstContact and ask for a fixed deposit quote for your exact amount and tenor.
  3. Ask for the rate in writing, stated per year, with the date the quote is valid.
  4. Give a maturity instruction: pay everything to your account, roll over the principal only, or roll over principal plus interest.
  5. Ask what happens if you need the money early, and whether any charge applies beyond lost interest.
  6. Sign the booking and keep the deposit advice or certificate; check that it shows the amount, rate, start and maturity dates.

TechCabal's May 2026 directory lists FirstContact on 0700-347-782-668-228, +234 201 905 2326 and firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com, and a WhatsApp line on 08124444000. Use these, or the numbers printed on your own statement, rather than numbers sent to you by strangers.

A worked example

Example only, with an assumed rate rather than a First Bank quote. You book ₦750,000 for 60 days at 14% a year, interest paid at maturity, on a 365-day year.

StepCalculationResult
Gross interest₦750,000 × 14% × 60 ÷ 365₦17,260.27
Withholding tax (example rate of 10%)₦17,260.27 × 10%₦1,726.03
Net interest₦17,260.27 − ₦1,726.03₦15,534.24
Paid at maturity₦750,000 + ₦15,534.24₦765,534.24

Two lessons sit in that table. A yearly rate earns only a fraction of itself over 60 days, and tax comes off the interest before you see it. Our guide to how fixed deposit interest is calculated explains day counts in more detail, and withholding tax on interest covers the tax side as information, not advice.

Choosing the tenor and the maturity instruction

Since First Bank agrees the period with you rather than offering a fixed menu online, the choice is yours to make deliberately. Match the tenor to the date you will need the money: rent due in three months suggests a 90-day booking, not a year. If you are unsure, a shorter booking that you renew keeps a decision point at each maturity, and lets you move if another bank offers more.

The maturity instruction deserves the same care. A rollover of principal plus interest compounds your return but keeps everything locked; a rollover of principal only sends the interest to your account as income; a full liquidation returns everything. A rolled-over deposit is normally re-priced at the rate on the rollover date, so the rate you agreed this time is not promised for next time. Our guide to rolling over a fixed deposit at maturity covers how to stop an automatic renewal.

What to check first

  • The minimum for the rate you were quoted, since larger sums often price better.
  • Whether the rate is fixed for the whole tenor and stated per year.
  • The early-liquidation rule, in writing.
  • What happens at maturity if you say nothing.
  • Deposit insurance: the NDIC says deposit money banks are covered up to ₦5,000,000 per depositor, with all your balances at one bank added together.

If you are not yet sure a fixed deposit is right, compare it with keeping the money accessible in fixed deposit vs savings account.

Where Pryme fits

If you want a fixed-term naira saving with the rate in front of you before you commit, Pryme's Fixed Savings Box does that in the app. Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum for First Bank fixed deposit?

First Bank does not publish one on the pages we could read in October 2026. A nairaCompare article from July 2024 listed ₦10,000, but treat that as a question to put to the branch rather than a current figure.

What is First Bank fixed deposit interest rate today?

The rate is quoted on the day for your amount and tenor; First Bank does not publish a rate card. Ask for it in writing, per year, with the date it is valid.

Can I open First Bank fixed deposit on FirstMobile?

We could not confirm an in-app fixed deposit booking on First Bank's own pages. Ask FirstContact or your branch; booking through an account officer is the route that is certain to work.

Is my First Bank fixed deposit insured by NDIC?

First Bank is a deposit money bank, and the NDIC covers deposits at such banks up to ₦5,000,000 per depositor, combining all your accounts at that bank.
