Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Buying airtime and data with First Bank *894#

The exact *894# strings for airtime and data for your own line or someone else's, who can use them, and what First Bank does not publish.

The short answer

For airtime on your own line, dial *894*Amount# from the number linked to your First Bank account; for another number, dial *894*Amount*PhoneNumber#. For data, dial *894*2# for yourself or *894*2*PhoneNumber# for someone else, then pick a bundle and confirm with your five-digit Quick Banking PIN. First Bank's USSD page does not publish a daily airtime or data limit.

The four strings

First Bank's *894# page, checked in October 2026, lists these codes for airtime and data. The amount is entered in naira with no symbol or commas, so ₦500 is typed as 500.

You wantDialExample
Airtime for your own line*894*Amount#*894*500#
Airtime for another number*894*Amount*PhoneNumber#*894*500*08012345678#
Data for your own line*894*2#Then choose a bundle from the menu
Data for another number*894*2*PhoneNumber#*894*2*08012345678#, then choose a bundle

The phone numbers in the examples are placeholders. Data bundles are chosen from a menu rather than typed, because each network sets its own bundle sizes and prices, and those change. The menu shows the current price before you confirm, which is the figure to rely on.

Before the first purchase

You must be registered on *894# Quick Banking. First Bank's page sets out who can register and how:

  • You need an individual First Bank account. Joint, corporate and multiple-signatory accounts are not eligible.
  • Your phone number must be enrolled for SMS alerts on that account.
  • Registration is through *894*0#: choose 'Register for 894 Banking', select your debit card from the masked list, enter that card's four-digit PIN and create a five-digit Quick Banking PIN.

The page lists Airtel, MTN, Globacom and Etisalat as supported networks. It does not mention T2, the network formerly known as 9mobile, so if you are on T2 and the code fails, try from a line on another network that is registered to your account.

Step by step: airtime for someone else

  1. Dial *894*Amount*PhoneNumber# from your registered line, for example *894*1000*08012345678# for ₦1,000.
  2. Check the number on the confirmation screen digit by digit. Airtime sent to the wrong number is very hard to get back, because it is the network, not the bank, that credits it.
  3. Enter your five-digit Quick Banking PIN.
  4. Wait for the confirmation message and ask the recipient to check their balance.

Airtime or data: buying the right thing

Buying airtime and then converting it to data through your network's own menu is a common habit, but it adds a step and you may end up on a different bundle than you meant. If you know you want data, the *894*2# route lets you pick the bundle directly and pay from your account in one session. If the person you are topping up prefers to choose their own bundle, send airtime instead and let them convert it.

For someone on a different network from you, the code still needs only their number. If the number has been ported between networks, ask the recipient which network it is on now before buying data, because bundles are specific to each network.

Limits and charges: what is and is not published

First Bank's *894# page does not state a per-transaction or daily limit for airtime or data, and neither does its FAQ page as at October 2026. If a purchase is declined, the cause may be a channel limit, an account restriction or insufficient funds; the decline message usually tells you which.

On charges, the bank's pages are also silent. Networks can charge for USSD sessions: Access Bank's USSD FAQ, for example, says networks charge ₦6.98 per USSD financial transaction but exempt airtime and data purchases. First Bank does not publish its own statement on this, so if you want to be sure, check your account and airtime balance before and after one purchase.

When the purchase does not arrive

  • Debited, no airtime: wait a few minutes, then check your balance with *894*00#. If the debit stands and the airtime has not arrived, contact FirstContact with the date, amount and recipient number.
  • 'Invalid PIN': you may be entering your four-digit card PIN instead of the five-digit Quick Banking PIN.
  • Code not responding: confirm you are dialling from the registered number and that it is still on SMS alerts. Our guide to *894# not working covers each cause.

FirstContact can be reached on 02-014485500, 02-019052326, +234 807 019 4190 or firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com, the numbers listed on the USSD page. If unwanted subscriptions are eating the airtime you buy, see how to stop VAS charges.

Keeping it safe

Airtime and data are the most common first purchase fraudsters make with a stolen USSD PIN, because they can be resold quickly. Never share your Quick Banking PIN, and if your phone is lost, deactivate *894# on that number by dialling *894*911#, which First Bank lists for that purpose. The wider risks are in USSD banking fraud.

Where Pryme fits

In the Pryme app you can buy airtime and data for any number, with the amount and the recipient shown before you approve; see airtime and data. The Personal Assistant can also set reminders for recurring top-ups, though nothing is bought without your approval.

Questions people ask

What is the First Bank code to buy airtime for another number?

Dial *894*Amount*PhoneNumber#, for example *894*500*08012345678#, then enter your five-digit Quick Banking PIN.

How do I buy data with First Bank USSD?

Dial *894*2# for your own line or *894*2*PhoneNumber# for another number, pick a bundle and confirm with your PIN.

What is the maximum airtime I can buy on *894#?

First Bank does not publish an airtime or data limit on its USSD page. If a purchase is declined, the message or FirstContact will tell you why.

Can I use *894# on a T2 (formerly 9mobile) line?

First Bank's page lists Airtel, MTN, Globacom and Etisalat but does not mention T2 by name. Try it from your registered T2 line, and contact FirstContact if it fails.
