Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Finance agent for a bakery: daily costing and cash

How a Nigerian bakery can track flour, sugar, fuel and packaging costs by batch, set margin alerts and reconcile daily cash from sales.

The short answer

Daily costing for a bakery means recording the actual cost of each batch (flour, other ingredients, fuel, packaging and labour), dividing by the loaves produced, and comparing the cost per loaf with the selling price. Set an alert for when the margin falls below a level you choose, so a rise in flour or diesel prices is caught within days rather than at month end.

Why daily, not monthly

Bread is sold on thin margins in Nigeria, and the main inputs move quickly. The National Bureau of Statistics put food inflation at 19.59% year on year in September 2026, against headline inflation of 14.63%, as reported by Voice of Nigeria on 16 October 2026; check the NBS website for the latest release. A bakery that costs its bread once a month can sell for three weeks at a loss before anyone notices. Costing every production day, or at least every new delivery of flour, closes that gap.

What to record for each batch

InputWhat to captureTip
FlourBags used and the price paid for that deliveryUse the price of the bag actually used, not today's market price
Other ingredientsSugar, yeast, fat, salt, improver, preservativeWeigh per batch for a month to set a standard recipe cost
Fuel and powerDiesel, gas or electricity used for the ovenRead meters or tank levels at the start and end of the day
PackagingWrappers, labelsCount wrappers used, not loaves planned
LabourProduction staff cost for the shiftDaily share of wages
OutputGood loaves, and rejectsRejects raise the cost of every good loaf

Stock should be valued consistently. PwC's Nigeria tax summary (reviewed May 2026) notes that first-in, first-out is commonly used and that LIFO is not permitted, so the flour cost you use for a batch should follow the order bags were bought.

Worked example: cost per loaf and a margin alert

Example only. All prices are illustrative, not market quotes.

Item (one batch)Cost
Flour, one 50kg bag₦78,000
Other ingredients₦22,000
Gas and power₦9,000
Packaging, 120 wrappers at ₦60₦7,200
Labour share₦18,000
Total for 120 loaves₦134,200
Cost per loaf₦1,118.33

At a wholesale price of ₦1,400, the margin is ₦281.67 a loaf, which is 20.1% of the selling price. The owner has set an alert for any day the margin falls below 18%.

The next flour delivery costs 8% more: ₦84,240 a bag. The batch now costs ₦140,440, or ₦1,170.33 a loaf, and the margin drops to ₦229.67, which is 16.4%. The alert fires on the first batch made with the new flour. To get back to a 20% margin, the price would need to be about ₦1,463 (₦1,170.33 divided by 0.8). The owner can raise prices, change the loaf size and say so on the wrapper, cut rejects, or accept a thinner margin for a period; the alert makes it a decision rather than a surprise.

Setting a standard recipe cost

Daily costing is easier once you know what a batch should cost. For a month, weigh every ingredient used in each batch and record output. Average the results to set a standard recipe for each product: grams of flour, sugar and fat per loaf, wrappers per loaf, and expected loaves per bag. After that, the daily routine only needs the prices paid and the actual output; differences from the standard show up on their own.

Common costing mistakes

  • Using today's market price for flour bought two weeks ago, which makes the numbers jump around.
  • Leaving out fuel and power, often the second-largest cost after flour.
  • Counting loaves planned rather than good loaves sold or dispatched.
  • Ignoring rejects and stale returns from distributors.
  • Costing the main loaf but not smaller sizes, which often carry a thinner margin.

Margin alerts worth setting

  • Margin per loaf below your floor, by product line.
  • Any input price up by more than a set percentage from the last delivery.
  • Rejects above a set share of the batch.
  • Fuel or gas used per batch above the usual range, which can point to an oven problem or leakage.
  • Output per bag of flour below the standard recipe, which can mean over-sized loaves or waste.

Daily cash from sales

Costing tells you whether bread is profitable; daily cash tells you whether you are being paid for it. Each evening, compare loaves dispatched with loaves sold, returned and paid for, by route or by retailer. Cash and transfers received should equal sales less any credit given. Distributors and shops on credit should each have a running balance, with a limit agreed in advance.

  1. Count loaves out at the gate, by distributor.
  2. Count returns and stale bread back.
  3. Record cash and transfers received against each distributor.
  4. Flag any distributor whose balance passes their agreed limit.
  5. Bank cash the same day where possible.

See also costing a loaf of bread, selling bread on credit to retailers and pricing when costs keep rising.

Where Pryme fits

The Finance agent on a Pryme Business Account can prepare the daily batch costing and the cash comparison from the figures you record, and raise the alerts above. Supplier and distributor payments can be prepared through bulk payouts; a person approves anything above the ceiling you set, and actions are recorded.

Questions people ask

How do I calculate the cost of one loaf of bread?

Add the actual cost of flour, other ingredients, fuel, packaging and labour for a batch, then divide by the number of good loaves produced.

What margin should a bakery make in Nigeria?

There is no official figure. Choose a floor that covers overheads and profit, and set an alert for when the margin per loaf drops below it.

How often should a bakery recalculate costs?

At least every time a new delivery of flour or another major input arrives at a different price, and ideally every production day.

What is food inflation in Nigeria now?

The NBS put food inflation at 19.59% year on year in September 2026, as reported on 16 October 2026. Check the NBS website for the latest figure.
