Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Fake banking apps on Play Store: how to check the real one

Fake bank apps copy logos and steal logins. Check the developer name, downloads and permissions, use the bank’s own link, and report fakes.

The short answer

The safest way to get the real banking app is to follow the link on the bank’s own website rather than searching the store. On any listing, check that the developer name matches the bank’s company name, that the download and review history fits a real bank, and that it does not ask to read your SMS. Report fakes in Google Play under More, then Flag as inappropriate.

How fake banking apps work

A fake banking app copies a real bank’s name, logo and colours, and sometimes its screens. Once installed, it asks you to log in, then sends your username, password, PIN or OTP to the people who built it. Some go further and ask for permission to read your SMS messages or use accessibility services, which can let them capture codes and control what the phone does. They reach people through app store listings that slip past review for a while, through search adverts, and through links sent on WhatsApp or SMS ("download the new version of our app here").

The good news is that a few checks, done in under a minute, catch almost all of them.

Best route: start from the bank, not the store

The most reliable way to find the real app is to begin at the bank’s own website (typed in yourself, not from a link in a message) and follow its link to the app store. Banks commonly publish these links on their digital channels pages. Polaris Bank’s digital channels page, for example, links its VULTe app on Google Play (package name com.vulte.app) and on the App Store.

Following the bank’s own link takes you to the exact listing, so you never have to judge between several look-alikes in search results.

The checks to do on any listing

CheckWhat the real app usually showsWarning sign
Developer or seller nameThe bank’s registered company nameA personal name, a generic studio name, or a name with a spelling slip
Downloads and reviewsFor a major bank, a large and long history of downloads and reviewsFew downloads, a burst of five-star reviews in the same week, or reviews warning "this is fake"
Other apps by the developerOnly that bank’s appsA mix of unrelated apps: games, flashlights, other banks
Description and contact detailsThe bank’s website, privacy policy and support email on its own domainGmail or Yahoo contact address, no privacy policy, broken English throughout
Permissions requestedCamera for cheque or ID capture, notificationsSMS reading, accessibility service, or "display over other apps" with no clear reason

Developer names are not always identical to the brand. On the App Store, for example, the NMFB Mobile app is sold by "Nirsal Microfinance Bank Limited". The test is whether the name matches the institution, not whether it matches the logo.

Signs that should stop you completely

  • The link came by SMS, WhatsApp or email, not from the store or the bank’s website.
  • You are asked to download an APK file or to "allow installs from unknown sources".
  • The app asks for your card PIN, full card details or an OTP just to "activate" it.
  • Someone on the phone is guiding you through installing it.

That last one is the common thread in many frauds: a fake customer care agent talks the victim through installing either a fake bank app or a remote-access tool. See how scammers pose as your bank and remote-access app scams.

Steps before you install

  1. Go to the bank’s website by typing its address, and use its app link.
  2. If searching in the store instead, check the developer name against the bank’s legal name.
  3. Look at downloads, review history and the developer’s other apps.
  4. Read the permissions; be wary of SMS-reading and accessibility requests.
  5. After installing, compare the first login screen with what the bank shows on its website.

If you already installed a fake app

  1. Turn on flight mode or disconnect from data and Wi-Fi.
  2. Uninstall the app. If it will not uninstall, check whether it has device administrator or accessibility permission and remove that first, then uninstall.
  3. From a different, clean device, change your bank password and PIN, or call the bank’s official number to block the account. Many banks publish emergency block codes; Access Bank’s FAQ lists *901*911#, for example.
  4. Check your account for transactions you did not make and report them. See what to do in the first hour.

Reporting a fake app

Reporting helps take the listing down before others fall for it. Google’s help page gives these steps for Google Play: open the Play app, go to the app’s details page, tap More, then Flag as inappropriate, choose a reason and tap Submit. Google also offers a separate form to report an app that violates its developer policy. It says it may not send you an individual response.

Also tell the real bank, through its official support channels, so it can push for removal and warn other customers. If you lost money, report to the police or EFCC as well; see how to report fraud.

Where Pryme fits

The same checks apply to Pryme. Start from mypryme.com and use the links there, and keep the authenticator codes and transaction PIN that Pryme uses to yourself. See the security page.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a bank app is real on Play Store?

Check the developer name matches the bank’s company name, look at downloads and review history, and best of all follow the app link on the bank’s own website.

Can a fake app steal my money?

It can capture your login details, PIN and OTP, which criminals then use to move money. Some also request SMS or accessibility permissions to capture codes.

How do I report a fake app on Google Play?

In the Play app, open the app’s details page, tap More, then Flag as inappropriate, choose a reason and submit. Also tell the real bank.

I downloaded a fake bank app, what should I do?

Disconnect from the internet, uninstall it, change your bank password and PIN from a clean device or call your bank to block the account, then check for unknown transactions.
