Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bills

How to check and pay an EKEDC postpaid bill online

Where to find your EKEDC postpaid bill without visiting an office, the payment channels EKEDC lists, the deadlines that apply and what to keep.

The short answer

EKEDC can send postpaid bills by SMS or email, and its website lists approved Payment Channels, Payment Centres and Cash Offices on ekedp.com. To pay online, choose Eko and postpaid on an approved channel, enter the account number from your bill, confirm the name shown, pay and keep the receipt. Under NERC's 2023 rules, a bill must reach you at least 10 days before it is due.

Step one: see the bill

Postpaid customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDC) receive a monthly bill and pay against the account number on it. You do not need a paper bill. NERC's Customer Protection Regulations 2023 allow bills to be sent by text message, email or another electronic method you have agreed to (Regulations 20(2)(b) and 31(1), as summarised by Tope Adebayo LP in May 2024). If you are not receiving them, update your phone number and email with EKEDC.

  • Search your SMS and email for messages from EKEDC or EKEDP.
  • Check the amount, billing period, tariff band and whether the reading is actual or estimated.
  • If you have no bill at all, call 0708 067 1170 or 0700 123 5666 (Monday to Saturday, 8.00am to 6.00pm, per EKEDC's site) and ask for your current balance and how bills will be sent to you.

Many payment apps also show the outstanding balance once you enter the account number. That figure comes from EKEDC's system, but treat it as a guide and keep the bill as your record.

Step two: pay without visiting an office

EKEDC's website has three payment pages: Payment Channels, Payment Centres and Cash Offices. Use the Payment Channels page to see which apps, banks and websites EKEDC currently accepts, since the list can change. Then:

  1. Open your chosen approved channel and pick electricity, then Eko (EKEDC or EKEDP), then postpaid.
  2. Enter the account number exactly as it appears on the bill.
  3. Check the customer name and address shown match the bill. If not, stop.
  4. Enter the amount. You can usually pay the full balance or part of it.
  5. Approve the payment and save the receipt with its reference number.

The deadlines that apply

RuleWhat it saysRegulation
Bill to due dateAt least 10 days20(2)(b)
Due date to disconnectionAt least 2 working days20(2)(c)
Disconnection noticeMust give the reconnection team's address and phone number24(1)(d)

These come from the May 2024 summary of the 2023 Regulations. The practical point is that the gap between a missed due date and disconnection is short. Pay on time, or if you dispute the bill, complain in writing before the due date and pay any part you accept. Our guide to EKEDC disconnection rules covers the detail.

Worked example

Example: your bill for October shows ₦38,400. You accept ₦30,000 of it but think ₦8,400 comes from an estimated reading that is too high. You pay ₦30,000 by the due date through an approved channel, keep the receipt, and lodge a complaint about the ₦8,400 with your meter photo. ₦30,000 + ₦8,400 = ₦38,400, so the complaint and the payment together account for the whole bill.

If your payment does not show on the account

Payments made through an approved channel normally reach the account quickly, but delays happen, particularly around month end. If your next bill does not reflect a payment:

  1. Find the receipt and its transaction reference.
  2. Check the account number on the receipt matches the bill. A single wrong digit sends money to another customer.
  3. Contact the channel you paid through first if the money left your account but the receipt shows a failure.
  4. If the receipt shows success, send it to EKEDC through the Register Your Complaint page and ask for the payment to be applied, with a reference number.

Do not pay the same amount a second time while a payment is being traced, unless the due date is close and you are prepared to claim the duplicate back as a credit.

Is the bill right?

Before paying a large bill, check it:

  • If you have a meter, compare the reading on the bill with the meter.
  • If you are unmetered, the energy billed should not exceed NERC's monthly energy cap for your feeder; see the EKEDC estimated bill cap.
  • Check the band. NERC's July 2025 order for EKEDC set Band A at ₦209.50/kWh and Band B non-MD at ₦61.00/kWh, so a band error makes a big difference. Later NERC orders may have changed these rates, so check the current figure before you compare.
  • Look for arrears from before you moved in. Under Regulation 29(3), they are not yours.

If something is wrong, follow how to dispute an EKEDC bill.

Where Pryme fits

You can pay electricity bills from Pryme's bills feature, where the account name is shown before you approve. A Personal Account customer can ask their Personal Assistant to remind them before the due date and prepare the payment; nothing is paid until you approve it.

Questions people ask

How can I check my EKEDC postpaid bill online?

Look for the bill EKEDC sends by SMS or email, or enter your account number on an approved payment channel to see the balance. If you get nothing, call 0708 067 1170 or 0700 123 5666.

Where can I pay my EKEDC postpaid bill?

EKEDC's website lists approved Payment Channels, Payment Centres and Cash Offices on ekedp.com. Use one of those.

How long do I have to pay an EKEDC bill?

The bill must reach you at least 10 days before the due date, and disconnection can follow at least 2 working days after the due date.

Can I pay part of my EKEDC bill?

Most channels let you enter any amount. If you dispute part of a bill, pay what you accept and complain in writing about the rest.
