Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

State taxes in Benue: who collects and how to register

Nigeria splits tax collection between the federal and state levels. Companies deal with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS) for company income tax and VAT. Individuals, including employees, sole traders and partners in a registered business name, pay personal income tax to the state where they are resident, and employers deduct PAYE for staff and remit it to that state. In Benue the state tax authority is the Benue State Internal Revenue Service. Under the Personal Income Tax Act, each state has a Board of Internal Revenue whose operating arm is the State Internal Revenue Service.

Steps to register

  1. Get your Tax ID. Since 1 January 2026 the 13-digit Tax ID has replaced previously issued TINs. Individuals retrieve it with their NIN and companies with their CAC registration number at taxid.jrb.gov.ng or taxid.nrs.gov.ng, run by the Joint Revenue Board and the NRS. See how to get a Tax ID for your business.
  2. Register with the Benue State Internal Revenue Service as an employer if you have staff, so you can file PAYE schedules and remit deductions. The rates are the national bands; see Nigeria PAYE tax bands for 2026.
  3. If you trade as a sole proprietor or through a business name, file your own direct assessment return with the state service each year.
  4. Ask the state service, the state ministry responsible for commerce and your local government which premises, signage, environmental and market levies apply to your location before you pay anyone. Pay only into official channels and keep the receipt.
  5. Apply for a tax clearance certificate once you have a filing history; it is often requested for contracts, permits and some bank processes.

Benue revenue: what NBS data shows

The National Bureau of Statistics publishes internally generated revenue (IGR) for each state, split between taxes (PAYE, direct assessment, road taxes, stamp duties, capital gains tax, withholding tax, other taxes and LGA revenue) and revenue earned by ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). Benue raised ₦19.12bn in 2023, up 19.8% from ₦15.95bn in 2022. Taxes were 74% of the total, against about 80% nationally. Benue's IGR was 0.79% of the ₦2.43 trillion raised by all 36 states and the FCT, ranking 31st.

Minimum wage and electricity in Benue

Minimum wage

The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 set the national minimum at ₦70,000 a month and shortened the review cycle from five years to three. States then announced what they would pay their own workforce. The figure below is what was reported for Benue as of 30 April 2026.

StateAnnounced monthly minimumWhenNotes
Benue₦75,000 (some categories) / ₦70,000 (local government staff)November 2024; full LG implementation reported for May 2026Governor Hyacinth Alia approved a ₦75,000 structure for specific categories of workers; the same report says full ₦70,000 implementation was approved for local government staff. The source's figures are not fully consistent, so both are shown.

For a private employer, the national ₦70,000 figure is the legal reference point; a state's announcement covers state public servants. Budget the employer's pension contribution and other statutory deductions on top of gross pay; a payroll tool helps keep PAYE schedules for the state service in order.

Electricity

We have not named the distribution company for Benue on this page because we could not confirm it against a primary source for this edition. The name of your DisCo is printed on your electricity bill, prepaid token receipt and meter card. NERC's customer complaints forum for the state is in Makurdi at No. 10 IDS Close. Complain to the DisCo first and escalate to the NERC forum if it is not resolved; see how to complain about your DisCo and escalate to NERC.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme's Spaces merchant network is in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, so it is not yet available to businesses in Benue. Pryme Personal and Business accounts work nationwide and can be opened from anywhere; naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. Open an account.

How we put this together

Revenue figures are from the NBS reports Internally Generated Revenue at State Level for 2022 (published October 2023) and 2023 (published October 2024); NBS notes the figures are subject to reconciliation by state revenue authorities. Ranks are by value across 36 states and the FCT (the NBS appendix lists Nasarawa above Abia although Abia's figure is higher; we rank by value). The Tax ID process is from the JRB and NRS announcement republished by FCT-IRS in December 2025. Minimum wage figures are from Nairametrics' state-by-state compilation, current to 30 April 2026, a secondary source reporting official announcements. Electricity details are from NERC and, where relevant, PHED. Gaps in this edition: the state tax authority's official website; the name of the licensed DisCo; state agencies for signage and environment and the ministry of commerce, and key markets, which we could not verify from primary sources in this edition.
