Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Does checking your own credit score lower it?

The law treats your own check differently from a lender's. What Nigerian bureaus record when you or a lender pull your report, and what is unconfirmed.

The short answer

Your own check is a different purpose under the law from a lender's check, and nothing in the Credit Reporting Act 2017 or the bureaus' public pages says a self-enquiry lowers a score. Lender enquiries are recorded on your report with who asked and when, and those are what other lenders look at; Nigerian bureaus do not publish how either kind affects their scores.

Two different kinds of check

The Credit Reporting Act 2017 only lets a bureau release your information for a permissible purpose, listed in section 7(2). Two items on that list are relevant here:

  • Section 7(2)(a): "considering an application for credit by any person". This is a lender checking you because you applied.
  • Section 7(2)(h): "satisfying a request by a data subject to validate the correctness or otherwise of Credit Information held by a credit bureau". This is you checking yourself.

Because the purposes are separate in law, a bureau knows which is which. Elsewhere this distinction is often called a hard enquiry (a lender assessing an application) and a soft enquiry (you, or a lender reviewing an existing account). The Act does not use those words, and Nigerian bureaus do not publish a rule on them.

What a Nigerian report records

CRC Credit Bureau says its reports include "Inquiry Details (who asked, when)". That section lists institutions that requested your report. Lenders reading it can see, for example, that four lenders checked you in the past fortnight, and they draw their own conclusions.

Who checksPurpose in the ActWhat we know about its effect
You, for your own reports7(2)(h): validating your dataNo Nigerian source we found says it lowers a score
A lender, because you applieds7(2)(a): considering an applicationRecorded as an enquiry; lenders may read many recent ones as a sign of credit hunger
Your existing lender, reviewings7(2)(b): monitoring existing creditTreatment not published
An employer or landlords7(2)(c) and (d)Treatment not published

Why checking your own report is worth doing

The law encourages it. Section 9(6)(a) gives you one free credit report a year from a bureau, and further reports for a fee. CRC says you are entitled to one free report every year and, as at October 2026, its home page offers a free report with the code FREEREPORT, lists its full self-enquiry report at ₦5,000 and its score at ₦400. FirstCentral's home page says consumers are entitled to one free report every month. Prices change, so check each bureau's site for today's figure.

Checking lets you:

  • Catch errors while you can still dispute them within the 15 working days that section 9(6)(b) allows after you receive the report.
  • Spot a loan you never took before it damages you further.
  • See which lenders have pulled your report, which tells you whether an app you never applied to has been looking.

Reading the enquiries section

When you get your report, look at the enquiries list with three questions in mind.

  1. Do you recognise every name? Under section 12(d) of the Act a lender must obtain your consent before requesting your report. An unfamiliar lender may mean an app you installed collected consent in its terms, or that someone applied in your name.
  2. How many are recent? Several lender enquiries in a few weeks tells the next lender you have been shopping for credit, which some read as financial strain.
  3. Did each enquiry lead to a facility? An enquiry with no loan after it usually means you were declined or did not proceed. If you were declined because of the report, section 9(6)(c) entitles you to the reason within 15 working days and a free copy of the report used.

If an enquiry looks like fraud, report it to the bureau at once; CRC's fraud page asks customers to contact it immediately to file a fraud alert.

What does move a score

If you want your score to rise, the things that matter are the facilities lenders report: whether you pay on time, how much you owe against what you were offered, whether old defaults are settled, and how many new applications you make in a short period. See how to improve your credit score and what applying to many lenders does.

Steps: check safely

  1. Go directly to the bureau's own website or app, typed yourself. Do not use links sent by text or WhatsApp.
  2. Register and verify your identity as the bureau asks. CRC lists five steps: register, verify account, add to cart, pay (or use the free code), get your report.
  3. Read the report; here is a line-by-line guide.
  4. Never pay a third party who offers to "boost" or "clean" your score. Only a lender's corrected data, or a dispute, changes a bureau record.

Where Pryme fits

Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, the lender, uses credit bureaus for Loans on Spaces. A Loans on Spaces limit is offered based on how your Pryme account is run, and you see the full agreement before you accept. See how the limit is offered.

Questions people ask

Will checking my CRC credit report reduce my score?

CRC does not publish whether self-enquiries affect its score. In law your own request is a separate purpose from a lender's application check, and nothing we found says it lowers a score.

How many times can I check my credit report for free in Nigeria?

The Credit Reporting Act 2017 gives you one free report a year from a bureau. FirstCentral's site says it gives one free report a month. Further reports may cost a fee.

Can a loan app check my credit report without my permission?

The Act says a lender needs your consent before requesting your report, except in limited cases. Many apps collect that consent in their terms when you apply.

Do lenders see when I check my own credit report?

Reports list who asked and when. Bureaus do not publish whether your own checks are shown to lenders, so ask the bureau if it matters to you.
