Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Daily contribution loans for traders: how MFBs lend them

How savings-linked daily loans work for Nigerian traders: contribute first, borrow a multiple, repay daily, and how to avoid unregistered collectors.

The short answer

Daily contribution loans work by asking a trader to save a fixed amount every day, collected by an agent at the shop, for a set period before borrowing; the lender then offers a loan sized as a multiple of the savings, repaid in daily instalments. They are useful where the collector works for a CBN-licensed microfinance bank, but money given to an unregistered collector has no deposit insurance and can disappear.

How a contribution loan works

Daily contribution is one of the oldest forms of saving in Nigerian markets. A collector visits each shop, takes a fixed sum, and records it on a card. Traditional collectors return the savings at the end of the cycle, keeping a fee. Microfinance banks adopted the same model and added credit: once you have saved consistently, you can borrow.

The typical cycle, which varies by lender:

  1. Open an account with the MFB, often at your shop through its field agent, with your BVN and a valid ID.
  2. Contribute daily a fixed amount for a qualifying period, often a few weeks to a few months.
  3. Apply for a loan sized as a multiple of your savings or your average daily contribution.
  4. Repay daily or weekly, collected by the same agent or by transfer, while some lenders keep part of your savings as security until the loan is repaid.

For the lender, the contributions do two jobs: they show that you have cash coming in every day, and they build a deposit the lender can hold against the loan. For you, they build a record a lender can read when you have no payslip.

Worked example: what the loan costs

These figures are examples, not any MFB's terms. A trader contributes ₦2,000 a day for 30 days.

Savings after 30 days
₦60,000
Loan offered (example: twice savings)
₦120,000
Repayment (example)
₦5,000 a day for 30 days = ₦150,000
Charge on the loan
₦30,000, or 25% of the loan for one month
Savings held as security during the loan
₦60,000, earning little or nothing

Because the loan is repaid every day, the trader has, on average, only about half of the ₦120,000 for the month, so the true cost is higher than the 25% headline: about 1.5% a day on the balance still owed. And the ₦60,000 held back means the trader's own money is tied up too. Ask the lender whether held savings are released as you repay. For how to convert daily repayments into a monthly rate for comparison, see loans for market traders.

The risk: who is the collector?

The biggest risk in daily contribution is not the interest rate. It is handing cash every day to someone who may not work for a licensed institution.

Licensed MFB agentUnregistered collector
Who holds your moneyA CBN-licensed bankAn individual or informal group
Deposit insuranceNDIC cover for MFB depositors (₦2 million per depositor, as reported in March 2026)None
Record of paymentAccount statement, SMS or app alertA card or notebook
If the collector disappearsThe bank still owes you your balanceYour savings may be lost

The NDIC limit was reported by Voice of Nigeria on 1 March 2026; check the NDIC for the current figure.

How to check a collector

  • Ask for the name of the microfinance bank and check it appears on the CBN's list of licensed institutions.
  • Ask for an account number in your own name, not a card only.
  • Check that each contribution produces an alert or shows on your statement within a day.
  • Never pay a 'processing fee' in cash to get a loan approved.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises a loan larger than the lender's stated multiple.

Contribution products on apps

Some lenders now take contributions and repayments through an app or USSD rather than a collector. That removes the cash risk but adds a new one: make sure the app belongs to a licensed bank or an approved lender. The FCCPC's 2025 digital lending regulations cover unsecured digital consumer lending; CBN-licensed microfinance banks can apply for a waiver from FCCPC registration, so a licensed MFB may not appear on the FCCPC's approvals list in the same way as a loan app. Check the CBN's list for banks and the FCCPC register for other lenders.

Repaying on time has a second benefit. The Credit Reporting Act 2017 lists banks, other financial institutions and cooperatives among credit information providers, so a well-run contribution loan can start a credit history that helps you borrow more cheaply later.

Contribution loan or ajo loan?

Some traders borrow from their esusu or ajo group instead, by taking an early turn. That is interest-free but relies on trust; see ajo and esusu vs a savings app and borrowing from ajo. An MFB loan costs more but builds a credit record and gives you a bank's legal obligation instead of a promise.

What to check first

  1. Confirm the MFB is licensed by the CBN.
  2. Ask for the total to repay in writing, not just the daily amount.
  3. Ask whether your savings are held as security and when they are released.
  4. Ask what happens on days the market is closed.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not run daily collections. Traders who want to set money aside every day can use a Flexible Savings Box, with Naira deposits held by Solid Allianze MFB, a CBN-licensed microfinance bank whose deposits are insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Questions people ask

How does daily contribution loan work in Nigeria?

You save a fixed sum daily with an MFB agent for a qualifying period, then borrow a multiple of your savings and repay daily or weekly.

Is my daily contribution money safe?

It is protected by NDIC deposit insurance up to the limit only if the collector works for a CBN-licensed bank and the money is in an account in your name.

How much loan can I get from my daily contribution?

It depends on the lender's multiple and your record. Ask for the multiple and the full repayment amount in writing.

Can a microfinance bank keep my savings until I repay?

Many contribution lenders hold part of your savings as security. Ask before you borrow whether, and when, it is released.
