Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Cost of living in Owerri in 2026: rent, food, transport, power

Example monthly budgets for a single person and a family of four in Owerri, built on sourced inputs: NBS fares, IMSHIA and the Imo minimum wage.

The short answer

As an example, a single person renting a self-contained room in Owerri might spend about ₦200,000 a month on rent, food, transport, power, data and health cover, and a family of four with two children in private school about ₦520,000. Against that, Imo's minimum wage was reported at ₦104,000 a month as at April 2026. These budgets are labelled examples built on sourced inputs; your own figures will depend on where you live and how you travel.

Owerri is often described as cheaper than Lagos or Abuja, and on rent it usually is. But food, fuel and school fees track national prices, so the gap is smaller than many expect. Below are two example budgets, with each input explained, so you can swap in your own numbers.

The sourced inputs

Imo minimum wage
₦104,000 a month, the highest state figure in Nairametrics' May 2026 roundup (as at 30 April 2026).
Intra-city bus fare
NBS: South-East average ₦1,116.10 a trip in February 2026, the lowest of the six zones; national average ₦1,431.25 in May 2026.
State health insurance
IMSHIA ImoCare: ₦15,000 a year per principal contributor, as at October 2026.
Electricity
Imo's market is regulated by the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission since 2024; check your tariff with EEDC, as it depends on your band.

Rent, food and school fees have no official Owerri series, so the figures for those lines are examples. Check them against rent by area in Owerri and what you see in the market.

Example budget: single person

ItemMonthly (example)How it was worked out
Rent (self-contained room)₦33,333₦400,000 a year ÷ 12
Food₦70,000Mostly home cooking, some eating out
Transport₦52,8002 bus or keke trips a day x 22 working days x ₦1,200
Electricity tokens₦15,000Example for a small prepaid user
Data and airtime₦10,000Example
Health insurance₦1,250₦15,000 a year ÷ 12 (ImoCare)
Other (toiletries, church, savings gap)₦20,000Example
Total₦202,383

Example budget: family of four

ItemMonthly (example)How it was worked out
Rent (two-bedroom flat)₦75,000₦900,000 a year ÷ 12
Food₦180,000Example for four
Transport₦90,000Two adults commuting plus school runs
School fees (two children)₦75,000Example ₦150,000 a term x 3 terms x 2 children ÷ 12
Electricity tokens₦30,000Example
Data and airtime₦20,000Example
Health insurance (two adults)₦2,5002 x ₦15,000 a year ÷ 12; children's cost to confirm with IMSHIA
Other₦50,000Example
Total₦522,500

Two things make these budgets swing most. The first is rent: a self-contained room and a two-bedroom flat in the same area can differ several-fold, and landlords commonly ask for a year or more up front. The second is school fees, which range from low-cost public schools to private schools charging many times more. If either line in your own budget is far from the example, adjust it first; the other lines are usually closer to what most households spend.

Where the money goes, and where to save

  • Rent: moving a little further out, for example to newer areas on the city's edges, can cut rent but raise transport costs. Do both sums.
  • Food: buying staples in bulk at the big markets is usually cheaper than buying small quantities near home; see Owerri markets.
  • Transport: at roughly ₦1,000 to ₦1,500 a trip, two trips a day adds up to over ₦40,000 a month. Living near work saves more than any other single change.
  • Power: a prepaid meter stops estimated bills; see applying for an EEDC meter.
  • Health: a small premium can protect against a large hospital bill.

How the examples compare with income

Set against Imo's reported minimum wage of ₦104,000 a month, the single-person example of ₦202,383 is almost twice that figure (₦202,383 ÷ ₦104,000 is about 1.95). The family example of ₦522,500 is about five times the minimum wage. In practice, many Owerri households close that gap in familiar ways:

  • Two earners in the household, or one salary plus a business.
  • Sharing accommodation, or living in a family house rent-free.
  • Lower school fees at public or low-cost private schools.
  • Support from relatives in other cities or abroad.
  • Cutting transport by living close to work or market.

If your income is well below your budget, the order to tackle it is usually: housing and transport first (the largest fixed costs), then school fees, then food. Small daily costs matter, but they rarely close a gap of this size on their own. See jobs and pay in Owerri for the income side.

What to check first

  1. Write down your actual spending for one month before using any example.
  2. Price rent in two or three areas, adding the transport cost from each.
  3. Check your electricity band and token spending.
  4. List the yearly lump sums and divide them by 12.

Where Pryme fits

Savings Boxes help with the lump sums: a Flexible Box for emergencies, a Fixed one for next year's rent. Your Personal Assistant can prepare bill payments and reminders for you to approve.

Questions people ask

Is Owerri cheaper than Lagos to live in?

Rent is usually lower in Owerri, but food, fuel and school fees follow national prices, so total costs can be closer than people expect.

How much do I need to live in Owerri per month?

Our example single-person budget comes to about ₦202,000 a month and a family of four about ₦522,500. Replace each line with your own figures.

What is the minimum wage in Imo State?

Nairametrics reported ₦104,000 a month for Imo as at 30 April 2026, the highest state figure in its roundup.

How much is transport within Owerri?

NBS put the South-East average intra-city bus fare at ₦1,116.10 in February 2026. Actual fares vary by route and distance.
