Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Construction loan in Nigeria: financing a house you are building

How self-build and construction loans are released in stages, FMBN's NHF construction loan, bank options, and the title and approval documents you need.

The short answer

A construction loan in Nigeria is normally released in stages as the building rises, after each stage is inspected, rather than paid out in one sum. National Housing Fund contributors can apply to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria's Construction Loan to build a home they or their family own; banks and mortgage banks also lend against land with good title. Expect to provide a Certificate of Occupancy or other title, an approved building plan and a bill of quantities.

How a construction loan differs from a mortgage

A mortgage buys a finished house that a valuer can price today. A construction loan finances something that does not exist yet, so the lender's risk is higher: the money could be spent and the building left at lintel level. Lenders manage this in two ways. They release funds in stages tied to progress, and they take the land as security from the start.

A typical staged release

  1. Site clearing and foundation.
  2. Blockwork to lintel or wall plate level.
  3. Roofing.
  4. Windows, doors, plastering, plumbing and electrical.
  5. Finishing and external works.

Before each release, the lender's valuer or engineer inspects the site and confirms the previous stage matches the bill of quantities. Delays in inspection are common, so build a few weeks of slack into your schedule.

FMBN and the National Housing Fund

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria runs the National Housing Fund (NHF). Its Construction Loan, as described on its site in October 2026, is for NHF contributors who want to build a property owned by them personally or through family ownership. Its Home Renovation Loan does the same for improving an existing home. FMBN's FAQ refers to primary mortgage banks (PMBs) as the lenders applicants deal with.

Two numbers from FMBN's own FAQ matter for planning: NHF contributions are 2.5% of monthly gross salary or income, and FMBN uses one-third of an applicant's income as the ceiling for loan repayments. The FAQ also covers whether self-employed contributors can use the construction loan and whether a Deed of Assignment or Right of Occupancy can stand in for a Certificate of Occupancy; read the answers on FMBN's site or ask a primary mortgage bank, because they decide which title you can use. The full requirement list is a download on the product page.

Bank and mortgage bank options

Commercial banks and primary mortgage banks also lend for construction, usually to salary earners or businesses with steady income, secured on the land and building. Some banks publish home finance terms; Sterling Bank's HAFF home finance product, for example, lists 32% a year with a 1% commitment fee and insurance charges, up to ₦150 million (as at Oct 2026), though that product is for buying rather than building. Ask any lender whether it finances self-build and how it stages drawdowns.

The documents you will need

The Bank of Agriculture's published list for property-related SME loans gives a fair picture of what Nigerian lenders ask for (as at Oct 2026):

  • Statutory Certificate of Occupancy for the land, or another title the lender accepts.
  • Approved building plan from the state planning authority.
  • Architectural and structural drawings.
  • Bill of quantities or a contractor's estimate.
  • Registered Deed of Assignment or conveyance where the land was bought.
  • A current valuation report by an estate surveyor the lender accepts, with photographs.
  • Six months of bank statements, BVN and ID; see bank statements for loan applications.

Title is where most self-build applications stall. If your land is held on a receipt or family agreement only, the lender cannot take a proper charge; regularise the title first. For land used as security, see land as collateral and Governor's consent.

Worked example: why staged drawdown saves money

This is an example with an illustrative rate of 2% a month on the amount drawn. A ₦12 million build is released in four equal stages of ₦3 million at months 0, 4, 8 and 12, and the loan converts to a repayment schedule at month 12.

TrancheMonths outstanding before month 12Interest at 2% a month
₦3m at month 012₦720,000
₦3m at month 48₦480,000
₦3m at month 84₦240,000
₦3m at month 120₦0
Total during construction₦1,440,000

If the full ₦12 million were drawn on day one, interest for the same 12 months would be ₦2,880,000 (₦12m × 2% × 12). Staging halves the cost in this example, but only if the lender charges on the amount drawn; check whether a commitment fee applies to the undrawn part.

Budgeting a self-build realistically

Construction loans fail most often because the budget was too optimistic, not because the lender withdrew. Building material prices in Nigeria can move sharply between stages, so a bill of quantities priced today may not hold for the roofing stage a year later. Keep a contingency of your own cash, agree with the lender what happens if a stage costs more than planned, and avoid starting a stage you cannot finish. A half-roofed building deteriorates and is hard to value, which can delay the next release.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not offer construction loans. Many people self-fund a stage at a time, and a Fixed Savings Box can hold the money for the next stage so it is not spent elsewhere. Paying contractors from your account and keeping verifiable receipts through VerifyDoc.ai (receipts) gives you a clean record of what each stage cost, which a lender or valuer may ask to see.

Questions people ask

Can I get a loan to build a house in Nigeria?

Yes. NHF contributors can apply for FMBN's Construction Loan through a primary mortgage bank, and some banks and mortgage banks lend for self-build against land with good title.

What documents do I need for a construction loan?

Usually a Certificate of Occupancy or accepted title, an approved building plan, drawings, a bill of quantities, a valuation report, bank statements, BVN and ID.

How much do I contribute to NHF?

FMBN's FAQ states the NHF contribution as 2.5% of monthly gross salary or income.

Is a construction loan paid all at once?

Normally not. Lenders release funds in stages after inspecting each stage of the building.
