Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Chevening scholarship for Nigerians: deadline and coverage

The 2027/28 Chevening window for Nigerians closed on 6 October 2026. Here is the timeline from here, who qualifies and what the award pays for.

The short answer

For the 2027/28 cycle, Chevening applications from Nigeria opened on 4 August 2026 and closed at 11:00 UTC (12:00 Nigeria time) on Tuesday 6 October 2026, with no late submissions. Applicants need at least two years' work experience (2,800 hours), must apply to three eligible UK master's courses and must return to Nigeria for two years after the award; the scholarship covers tuition, a monthly living allowance, a return economy flight, arrival and departure allowances and the UK visa application fee.

Where the 2027/28 cycle stands now

If you are reading this in October 2026, the application window for study starting in September or October 2027 has already shut. Legit.ng's report of the launch, published on 5 August 2026, gives the opening date as 4 August 2026 and the closing time as 11:00 UTC on Tuesday 6 October 2026, which is 12:00 in Nigeria. Chevening's own application timeline for 2027/28 confirms the pattern: applications open in August 2026 and close in October 2026 at 11:00 UTC, with the exact day shown on each country page.

What happens next for people who did apply follows Chevening's published timeline:

StageWhen (2027/28 cycle)

Who can apply from Nigeria

Chevening is the UK government's international scholarship for one-year master's courses. The eligibility points that most often trip up Nigerian applicants are practical rather than academic:

  • Work experience: at least two years, which Chevening counts as 2,800 hours. Keep a record of start and end dates and typical weekly hours for each role, so you can show how you reach the total; check chevening.org for which kinds of work count.
  • Return commitment: you agree to return to Nigeria for at least two years after the award ends. This rules out using Chevening as a route to stay on in the UK straight after the course.
  • Three course choices: you list three eligible UK master's courses in the application, and you must hold an unconditional offer from one of them by the selection deadline (8 July 2027 for this cycle).
  • Essays and referees: the application has four essays and needs two referees.

Chevening does not publish a minimum class of degree in the material we checked for this cycle, and the eligibility wording can change between years. Read the eligibility page on chevening.org for the cycle you apply in rather than relying on an older blog post.

What the scholarship covers

According to the coverage described for the 2027/28 cycle, a Chevening award pays for:

  • University tuition fees
  • A monthly living allowance
  • A return economy flight to the UK
  • An arrival allowance and a departure allowance
  • The cost of one UK visa application
  • A travel top-up for scholars who need it

Chevening does not state the monthly living allowance as a single national figure in the pages we read, and the amount differs between London and the rest of the UK. Use the figure in your award letter for budgeting, not a number from social media. The allowance is paid in pounds into a UK account, so you will need a UK bank account early in your stay; see our guide to opening a UK bank account as a Nigerian student.

What to prepare for the next cycle

Most of the work for a strong application happens before the portal opens. A sensible order:

  1. Count your work hours now. If you are under 2,800, work out when you will cross the line and whether that is before the next closing date.
  2. Shortlist three UK courses and note each one's admission deadline. You need an unconditional offer by July of the study year, which means applying to universities in parallel with Chevening.
  3. Line up two referees who know your work and can respond on time.
  4. Draft the four essays early, built on concrete examples from your own work and a clear plan for what you will do in Nigeria afterwards. Read the essay prompts for the new cycle before drafting, as wording can change.
  5. Check the English language and document rules on chevening.org for the new cycle before you book any test.

Chevening sits alongside the Commonwealth awards, which use a Nigerian nominating agency and a different calendar; see Commonwealth scholarships for Nigerians and our scholarship deadlines calendar for Nigerians.

Common mistakes

  • Applying with fewer than 2,800 hours of work experience on the closing date, hoping the count will be rounded up.
  • Choosing three courses without checking that each one is eligible for Chevening and that the university can issue an unconditional offer before July.
  • Leaving referees until the last week, so a reference arrives late.
  • Treating the award as a way to stay in the UK; the two-year return commitment is part of the agreement you sign.

None of these is fatal on its own, but each is avoidable with a few weeks of planning before the window opens.

Where Pryme fits

Once you are in the UK, the stipend arrives in pounds. A Pryme account holds GBP alongside naira, so you can keep part of a stipend in pounds and convert only when you choose with Swap, which shows the rate before you approve. Pryme is a technology company; naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze MFB, and activities outside Nigeria go through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

When is the Chevening deadline for Nigerians in 2026?

For the 2027/28 cycle it closed at 11:00 UTC (12:00 Nigeria time) on Tuesday 6 October 2026. Late applications are not accepted.

Does Chevening pay a monthly stipend?

Yes, it includes a monthly living allowance alongside tuition, flights and the visa fee. The amount is set in your award terms and differs for London.

How many years of work experience do I need for Chevening?

At least two years, counted as 2,800 hours, by the time the application closes.

Do I have to come back to Nigeria after Chevening?

Yes. Scholars commit to returning to Nigeria for at least two years after the award ends.
