Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to check your BVN on GTBank, Zenith, Access and UBA apps

Where your BVN shows in the GTBank, Zenith, Access and UBA apps, which official USSD codes display it, and what to do if your app does not show it.

The short answer

In most major bank apps, including those of GTBank, Zenith, Access and UBA, the BVN appears in the Profile or account details section, according to a nairaCompare guide (October 2023). If your app does not show it, use your bank's own USSD menu where its official page lists a BVN option, such as GTBank's *737*6*1#, or dial NIBSS's *565*0# from your BVN phone number, which NIBSS lists at ₦20.

Before you start

Bank apps change their menus often, and banks rarely publish "where to find your BVN" on their own help pages. The paths below come from a third-party guide published by nairaCompare in October 2023 and from banks' official USSD pages where they list a BVN option. Where the only source is the third-party guide, we say so. If your app looks different, the Profile, Settings or Account details screens are the places to look.

Some apps show the full number; others hide part of it and reveal the rest after you enter your PIN or use your fingerprint. Either way, the app is reading the BVN your bank has linked to your account, so if the app shows a number, that account is linked. If it shows nothing at all, that can itself be a sign the link is missing.

Bank by bank

BankIn the app (third-party guide)Official USSD with a BVN option
GTBankLog in, open Profile*737*6*1# balance, BVN and account number; *737*6*5# BVN/NIN enquiries

AccessLog in, select the Profile iconNone found on Access Bank's USSD FAQ
UBALog in, Profile, View BVNNone found on UBA's *919# page
FirstBankLog in, select ProfileNone checked

GTBank's codes are taken from its own pages: the 737 features page lists *737*6*1# for balance, BVN and account number, and the Bank 737 page lists *737*6*5# for BVN and NIN enquiries. Both must be dialled from the phone number registered on your GTBank account, and network charges may apply.

Other banks with a listed code

Some other banks list BVN options on their own USSD pages. Fidelity Bank's FAQs list *770*5# for account number and BVN details, and Keystone Bank's USSD page lists *7111*6# for BVN. Use only the code shown on your bank's official site; third-party lists of "BVN codes for all banks" are often out of date.

Internet banking and ATMs

Most banks' internet banking shows customer details, including BVN, under profile or account information. The nairaCompare guide also reports a "BVN Enquiry" option on FirstBank, UBA and Zenith ATMs. We could not confirm the ATM option on the banks' own pages, so treat it as possible rather than certain; see checking your BVN without airtime for more routes.

If the app shows nothing

  1. Update the app; older versions may lack the profile screen.
  2. Look under Profile, Settings, Account details and Manage account.
  3. Try your bank's official USSD code if it lists one.
  4. Dial *565*0# from the phone number registered to your BVN; NIBSS lists the charge at ₦20 and says no BVN is returned if the number is linked to more than one BVN.
  5. If none of these works, the BVN may not be linked to that account; see BVN not linked to your account.
  6. Visit a branch with ID; staff can confirm it.

When you will need the number

Most people look up their BVN because a form asks for it. Common cases include opening an account at another bank or a fintech, applying for a loan, registering for a student loan (NELFUND's guidelines list BVN for applicants aged 18 and over) and claiming from a failed bank: the NDIC's online depositor claim form lists BVN as required, alongside the account where you want to be paid. Having it saved privately saves a lookup each time.

Example

Example: Seun banks with GTBank and wants to open a second account elsewhere. The new bank's form asks for his BVN. He opens the GTBank app, finds it under Profile, and copies it into the form. No USSD charge applies. If the app had not shown it, *737*6*1# from his registered number would have displayed it, with network charges possibly applying.

Keeping it safe once found

  • Save it somewhere private, not in a shared photo album or chat.
  • Give it only to institutions you are opening an account or applying with, through their official app or form.
  • Take a screenshot only if your phone is locked with a PIN or biometrics.
  • If a caller asks for your BVN "to update your account", hang up and call your bank on the number on its website.

Read more in Is it safe to share your BVN?

Where Pryme fits

If you are about to open a Pryme account, having your BVN to hand from your existing bank app saves a USSD charge. Pryme protects sign-in with an authenticator app and a transaction PIN rather than SMS codes.

Questions people ask

Where can I see my BVN on the GTBank app?

A third-party guide reports it under Profile. GTBank's own pages also list *737*6*1# for balance, BVN and account number.

How do I check my BVN on the Zenith app?

Look under your profile once logged in. Zenith's USSD page lists *966*BVN# for updating a BVN, not for viewing it.

Is there an Access Bank code to check BVN?

We found none on Access Bank's USSD FAQ. Use the app's Profile section, internet banking or *565*0#.

Can I check my BVN in the UBA app?

A third-party guide reports Profile then View BVN. Menus change, so check Profile or Account details if you do not see it.
