Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What the other settings mean

  • Corridor: the band around the MPR for the CBN's standing lending facility (above) and standing deposit facility (below).
  • Cash reserve requirement (CRR): the share of deposits banks must keep with the CBN, which cannot be lent. At 45% it is high by international standards and is a main tool for removing naira liquidity.
  • Non-TSA public sector deposits: since September 2025, a separate 75% CRR applies to public sector deposits held outside the Treasury Single Account.
  • Liquidity ratio: the minimum share of liquid assets a bank must hold against its liabilities, 30%.

How to read an MPC communique

  1. The decision paragraph gives the MPR, corridor, CRR and liquidity ratio. These are the figures to cite, with the meeting number and dates.
  2. The vote: communiques often state how many members voted for each option. Reports of the 2026 meetings give attendance (11 members) but not always the split.
  3. The data the committee used: the latest inflation release, GDP quarter, reserves level and date. Quote these with their own dates, not the meeting date.
  4. Risks and reasons: the committee's view of inflation, the exchange rate, fiscal policy and global conditions. Treat these as the CBN's assessment, not as data.
  5. Personal statements: members' individual statements are published later and explain their votes.

If you are writing about the effect on borrowers or savers, remember that bank rates adjust with a lag and that treasury bill yields often move before a decision, as markets price it in. Our treasury bill stop rates page covers that link.

The September 2026 reset

At the 307th meeting the MPC cut the MPR from 26.5% to 23% and moved the corridor to +50/-300 bp, putting the standing lending facility at 23.5% and the deposit facility at 20%. According to reports of the communique, the committee called this an operational realignment rather than a change of stance, aimed at closing the gap between the MPR and market rates and supporting a gradual move to inflation targeting. It cited August 2026 headline inflation of 15.39%, Q2 2026 GDP growth of 4.43% and gross external reserves of $55.25 billion on 18 September 2026.

How we put this together

Source: the CBN Monetary Policy Committee decisions page, read in October 2026, cross-checked against dated news reports of the 2026 communiques. The CBN page lists some entries out of order and one meeting twice; we sorted by date. Gaps: the November 2024 entry is from reports, and the liquidity ratio is not stated for May and July 2026.

Related: inflation by month, external reserves and real interest rates.

Questions people ask

When is the next CBN MPC meeting?

The CBN publishes its annual MPC calendar on its website. After the September 2026 meeting, the committee usually holds one more meeting in November. Check the CBN site for the confirmed dates.

What is the cash reserve ratio in Nigeria now?

45% for commercial (deposit money) banks and 16% for merchant banks, with 75% on non-TSA public sector deposits. These were retained at the September 2026 meeting.

What is the liquidity ratio for Nigerian banks?

30%. The MPC has kept it unchanged throughout the period on this page; one report of the September 2026 meeting confirms it was held at 30%.

How many members sit on the MPC?

Reports of the July and September 2026 meetings say 11 members attended. The committee is chaired by the CBN Governor, who announces the decision at a press briefing on the second day.
