Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada visitor visa bank statement: what to show from Nigeria

No minimum is set for a Canada visitor visa. What bank statement period to show from Nigeria, how trip cost is judged, and why ties count.

The short answer

IRCC sets no minimum balance for a Canada visitor visa; you must show funds large enough to cover all reasonable expenses of your stay, through your own savings or confirmed support from family or friends. Show several months of statements in your own name with regular income, a trip cost you have worked out, and evidence of ties to Nigeria, because officers weigh those alongside the money.

There is no official minimum

IRCC does not publish a set amount that a visitor must hold. Its guidance to officers on proof of funds for temporary residents says you must show you can support yourself through money "in an amount large enough to cover all reasonable expenses to be incurred during the stay in Canada", or through support from friends or family that "can be confirmed". So the right figure is your own trip's cost, shown clearly, with room to spare.

The same guidance gives examples of acceptable financial documents: bank statements showing accumulated savings, an employment letter, and, where a host is supporting you, evidence of the host's income (such as a Canadian Notice of Assessment) and the host's family size. It says the list is not exhaustive, and that officers may limit or waive documents for applicants they assess as low risk.

How long a statement period to show

The visitor guidance we read does not fix a number of months. For students, IRCC asks for six months of statements. For a visitor visa, showing at least the last three to six months is a sensible approach because it lets the officer see your normal income and spending, not just a closing balance. A statement covering only the last few weeks, or one printed on a newly opened account, tells the officer very little.

What the officer is looking for in the statement

  • Regular inflows that match the job or business you describe: salary credits, business receipts.
  • A balance that has built over time, rather than one large deposit just before you apply.
  • Spending that fits your life: rent, school fees, bills. A dormant account with a large balance can look borrowed.
  • Your name on the account, matching your passport, unless a sponsor is clearly explained.

Working out your trip cost

Build the number from the bottom up and show it in your cover letter.

Item (example 14-day trip)Example cost (CAN$)
Return flight Lagos to Toronto1,800
Accommodation, 14 nights at 1502,100
Food and local transport, 14 days at 70980
Travel insurance and contingency600
Total5,480

Example only: the figures above are illustrative, not quotes; price your own flight and stay. Check the sums: 1,800 + 2,100 + 980 + 600 = 5,480. If you hold naira, convert using the rate your bank or app shows on the day you apply rather than a figure from a blog, and leave a margin for movement. If a relative in Canada is hosting you for free, accommodation drops out, but you should add the host's invitation letter and evidence of their income.

Self-employed and business owners

Traders and business owners often find statements harder to present because personal and business money mix. Show the business account and the personal account, the CAC registration, and a short note on how you pay yourself. An officer who can see regular business receipts and a consistent personal balance has a clearer picture than one who sees a single large transfer from the business into a personal account the week before you apply.

Ties to Nigeria and the rest of the file

Money is only part of a visitor decision. Refusal letters commonly cite doubts that the applicant will leave Canada at the end of the stay, as well as funds. A strong file shows reasons to return:

  • an employment letter with your role, salary and approved leave dates
  • business registration and evidence the business is trading
  • property, family responsibilities or ongoing studies in Nigeria
  • previous travel to other countries and return on time

An unusually large balance does not make up for weak ties; it can raise questions about where the money came from. A proportionate balance, a clear purpose and a short itinerary often read better.

What to check first

  1. Write your trip cost line by line and total it.
  2. Download statements for at least the recent months, in your own name, showing salary or business income.
  3. Explain any large deposit with a document.
  4. Add your employment or business evidence and leave approval.
  5. If someone is sponsoring you, add their letter, statements and relationship evidence; see sponsor bank statements for visas.

Our guide to the MyBankStatement ticket for a Canadian visa covers one way Nigerian banks issue statements.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, so trip savings can sit in the currency you will spend. You can also generate a verifiable statement through VerifyDoc.ai that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered; acceptance is for IRCC to decide.

Questions people ask

How much bank balance is needed for a Canada visitor visa from Nigeria?

IRCC sets no fixed minimum. You must show enough to cover all reasonable expenses of your stay, so work out your trip cost and show it with some margin.

How many months bank statement for Canada visitor visa?

IRCC's visitor guidance does not fix a number. Showing the last three to six months lets the officer see your regular income and spending.

Can my sponsor's bank statement be used for a Canada visit visa?

Yes, support from friends or family can count if it can be confirmed. Include the sponsor's letter, statements, income evidence and proof of your relationship.

Why was my Canada visitor visa refused with enough money?

Visitor decisions also weigh whether you will leave at the end of the stay. Weak ties to Nigeria or an unexplained deposit can lead to refusal even with a large balance.
