Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to buy FGN bonds on the secondary market

Buying FGN bonds after the auction: through a stockbroker on NGX or a dealer on FMDQ, how the price is quoted and why you pay accrued interest.

The short answer

You buy an existing FGN bond through a stockbroker who trades on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) or a bank or dealer active on FMDQ, both of which list the bonds. You pay the quoted price plus accrued interest, the coupon earned since the last payment date, and you can usually buy smaller amounts than the auction minimum.

The DMO sells new FGN bonds at monthly auctions, but the auction minimum is high: the August 2026 offer set it at ₦50 million. Most individual savers therefore buy bonds that have already been issued, from other investors. This is the secondary market. Here is how it works, what the price means and what to ask before you pay. For background on the bonds, read how FGN bonds work.

Two routes: NGX through a broker, or FMDQ through a dealer

FGN bonds are listed on both the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) and FMDQ Securities Exchange, as the DMO's offer documents state. In practice:

  • Through a stockbroker on NGX. Your broker places the order on the exchange. You need a CSCS account, which the broker opens with you. See do you need a CSCS account for bonds.
  • Through a bank or dealer on FMDQ. Most bond trading happens over the counter, where banks and dealers quote prices to each other and to clients. Your bank's treasury or wealth desk, or a dealing firm, buys the bond for you and holds it in your name.
  • Through an investment app or fund. Some platforms let you buy bond exposure in small amounts, often through a fund. Check whether you own the bond itself or units in a fund.

Whichever route you use, check the firm on the SEC's register of operators before you send money.

How the price is quoted

Bonds are quoted as a price per ₦100 of face value, alongside a yield to maturity. A price of 95 means you pay ₦95 for every ₦100 the government will repay at maturity. When market yields rise, prices fall, and the other way round; why bond prices fall when yields rise explains this. The quoted price is usually the clean price, which excludes interest that has built up since the last coupon.

Accrued interest: why the bill is higher than the price

FGN bonds pay coupons twice a year. If you buy between payment dates, the seller has earned part of the next coupon, so you pay that part to them. You then receive the whole coupon on the payment date. The DMO applies the same idea at auction for reopened bonds: buyers pay the clearing price "plus any accrued interest", according to the August 2026 offer.

ItemAmount
Face value bought₦5,000,000
Coupon rate15.45% a year

Clean price95.00 per ₦100 = ₦4,750,000
Accrued interest (5,000,000 × 15.45% × 60/365)₦126,986.30
Total before charges₦4,876,986.30

Your broker or dealer will add their own charges, and exchange fees may apply on NGX trades. Ask for every charge in writing before you confirm.

Auction or secondary market: which suits you

DMO auctionSecondary market

If you want a specific maturity, say a bond that ends the year your child starts university, the secondary market is often the only way to get it. If you have a large sum and want the auction price, the primary market may suit you better; see the FGN bond auction calendar.

Steps

  1. Choose a broker or dealer and check it on the SEC register.
  2. Complete their account opening (BVN, ID, proof of address) and, for NGX, the CSCS account.
  3. Ask for a quote on the bond you want: price, yield and the minimum they deal in.
  4. Confirm the total including accrued interest and charges.
  5. Pay from your own account, then check the contract note and your holding statement.
  6. Make sure your coupon bank details are correct so payments reach you.

What to watch for

  • Spread. The dealer's buying and selling prices differ. On less traded bonds the gap can be wide.
  • Minimum deal size. Over-the-counter desks often set their own minimums; ask before you start.
  • Selling later. You can sell before maturity, but at that day's price, which may be lower than you paid.
  • Tax. FGN bond coupons remain tax-exempt; see are FGN bond coupons taxed.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not trade bonds. A Pryme account can hold the naira you send to a broker, and coupons can be paid into it. Use Send to pay a broker's account and keep the receipt.

Questions people ask

Can I buy FGN bonds below ₦50 million?

Yes, on the secondary market. Brokers and dealers set their own minimums, which are often lower than the auction minimum. Ask before you open an account.

Where can I buy FGN bonds in Nigeria?

Through a stockbroker trading on the Nigerian Exchange, or a bank or dealer on FMDQ. Both exchanges list FGN bonds.

What is accrued interest on a bond?

The part of the next coupon the seller has already earned. You pay it to them when you buy and get it back in the full coupon on the next payment date.

Do I need a CSCS account to buy FGN bonds?

For NGX trades through a broker, yes. Bank-held bonds may be kept with a custodian instead; ask your bank.
