Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

How to buy a PHED electricity token in Uyo

Uyo is supplied by Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution. Every channel for buying a prepaid token, and what to do if the token fails.

The short answer

Uyo is in the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) network. You can buy a prepaid token on PHED Pay (payments.phed.com.ng) by card, bank transfer, USSD or mobile money from ₦100, through your bank app, or from a vending agent; the 20-digit token is shown on your receipt. If it does not arrive within five minutes, use the Retrieve Token option or contact PHED with your transaction reference.

Electricity in Uyo, as across Akwa Ibom, is distributed by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution company, known as PHED or PHEDC. Most homes and shops on prepaid meters buy tokens online or through a bank app. This guide sets out each channel, what PHED's own pages say about failed tokens, and who to complain to. Regulation in Akwa Ibom is also changing hands, which we explain below.

What you need before you buy

  • Your meter number, printed on the meter and on your last receipt. Check it twice; a wrong digit sends the token to someone else.
  • Your tariff band (A to E). It decides the price per kWh, not the token process, but it tells you how many units to expect.
  • A payment method: debit card, bank transfer, USSD or mobile money.

Channels for buying a PHED token

ChannelHow it worksNotes
PHED Pay (payments.phed.com.ng)Enter meter number, amount, pay by card, transfer, USSD or mobile moneyMinimum ₦100; token shown on the receipt; Retrieve Token option
Bank apps and USSDBills or electricity menu, choose PHED, enter meter numberYour bank may charge a convenience fee; the app shows it
Third-party bill apps and walletsChoose PHED or Port Harcourt ElectricityCheck the fee and the biller name before paying
Vending agents and POSAgent buys on your behalfAsk for the printed token and keep the slip

PHED Pay's FAQ does not list a convenience fee. Bank and app charges vary by provider, and we could not confirm them, so read the fee line before you approve.

Step by step on PHED Pay

  1. Go to payments.phed.com.ng and choose prepaid.
  2. Enter your meter number and confirm the name and address that appear.
  3. Enter the amount (₦100 minimum) and pay.
  4. Copy the 20-digit token from the receipt and keep the transaction reference.
  5. Type the token into your meter keypad and press enter.

How many units you get: a worked example

PHED's supplementary tariff order from NERC, dated 30 March 2026, set Band A at ₦209.50 per kWh for non-maximum-demand customers. NERC has since issued further MYTO orders, so check the current rate on PHED's or NERC's site. As an example only: ₦10,000 at ₦209.50 per kWh buys about 47.7 kWh (10,000 ÷ 209.50), before any VAT or charges your channel adds. Bands B to E pay lower rates.

When the token fails

Token not received

PHED Pay says to contact support with your transaction reference if the token has not arrived within five minutes. First try the Retrieve Token option on the site. If you bought through a bank or app, check its transaction history; many show the token there.

Token rejected by the meter

Meters that missed the 2024 STS key change reject new tokens. PHED's TID page (tid.phed.com.ng) lets you enter your meter number and generate the key change token, which must be loaded before the energy token. PHED also says recharge tokens should be loaded in the order they were bought. Our guide to electricity tokens not loading explains common error messages.

Contacting PHED

  • Phone: 0700 2255 7433, 0908 783 8800, 0908 783 8801 (from PHED's website)
  • Customer care lines listed in the FAQ: 084-303450/1/2, 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Email: info@phed.com.ng
  • WhatsApp: the number linked on PHED's website (234 818 820 6515)

Making each token go further

  • Check your band. PHED's website links daily Band A availability records. If your feeder is billed as Band A but you are not getting the minimum hours, keep a log of outages and raise it with PHED.
  • Buy smaller amounts more often if you are unsure the meter is working well; a fault is cheaper to catch with ₦2,000 than with ₦20,000.
  • Keep every receipt until the units are used, including the transaction reference, meter number and time.
  • Watch the meter after loading. Note the units shown. A balance that falls much faster than your usual pattern may point to a fault or a bypass on your line.

Complaints and the new state regulator

NERC's complaint route is your DisCo first, then the NERC Forum Office, then NERC. In August 2026 NERC transferred oversight of the Akwa Ibom electricity market to the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC). According to Voice of Nigeria, PHEDC was to set up a subsidiary within 60 days of 18 August 2026 that needs an AKSERC licence, with all transfers due by 17 February 2027. In states with their own regulator, NERC says the second and third steps go to that regulator. During the handover, keep your receipts and complaint reference numbers, and the name you buy under may change.

Where Pryme fits

You can buy a PHED token from your Pryme account on the electricity page: enter the meter number, confirm the name, see any fee before you approve. Your Personal Assistant can remind you when it is time to top up. For the basics of how units and bands work, see how prepaid tokens work.

Questions people ask

Which DisCo supplies electricity in Uyo?

Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) supplies Uyo and the rest of Akwa Ibom. Regulation is moving to the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

What is the minimum PHED token I can buy?

PHED Pay lists a minimum of ₦100. Other channels may set their own minimum.

I paid for PHED token but did not get it. What do I do?

Use Retrieve Token on payments.phed.com.ng. If it has not arrived after five minutes, contact PHED with your transaction reference.

Why does my meter reject a new token?

It may have missed the STS key change. Generate the key change token on tid.phed.com.ng and load it first, then the energy token.
