Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Shop sign permits in Port Harcourt: the RISAA process

Which signs need a Rivers State permit, how RISAA's first-party and mobile advertising process works, and how to avoid paying twice for the same sign.

The short answer

In Port Harcourt, a business that displays its own sign, whether on a wall, projecting from the building or free-standing, must register with the Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency (RISAA) and hold an annual permit. Branded vehicles, flyers, banners and road shows also need RISAA approval and fees.

Which signs need a permit

RISAA groups outdoor advertising into categories. For most small businesses, two matter:

First party
Signs a business displays for itself at its own premises. RISAA lists building wall signs, projecting or pylon signs, and free-standing signs such as roof or composite signs. It names clinics, hotels, banks, filling stations, restaurants, schools, shops, gyms, salons, bars and kiosks as examples. These need registration and an annual permit.
Mobile advertisement
Branded vehicles, road shows, static activations and promotions, including posters, flyers, banners and inflatables. These need approval and fees.
Third party
Billboard owners and outdoor advertising practitioners. This category has a much longer list of documents and is not usually relevant to a shop.

If you have a painted name over your door, a lightbox, or a standing sign by the road, assume it needs a first-party permit and check with RISAA.

How to apply for a first-party permit

  1. Pay for the registration form through the channel RISAA specifies.
  2. Take two photocopies of the bank teller to the agency. If your sign is not yet installed, bring a photo montage showing how it will look on the building.
  3. Collect the form and receipt.
  4. Complete the form with the measurements and sizes of each sign.
  5. Pay the bill RISAA issues and keep the permit where you can show it.

RISAA lists its office at No 51B Woji Road, GRA Phase II, Port Harcourt. Ask at the office how fees are calculated for your sign sizes; the published service page does not set out a fee table.

Promotions, banners and branded cars

Opening-day banners, flyers handed out at junctions, a branded delivery car or a promotional road show all fall under mobile advertisement. RISAA's process for branded vehicles is to pay the advert fee, submit two photocopies of the bank teller, collect the form and receipt, then return it with photos of the vehicles showing whether branding is half, full or door-side, after which the agency issues bills.

For a road show, write to the agency with:

  • How long the event will run.
  • A route map.
  • Whether activities will be static or mobile.
  • The number of branded vehicles, and the number of branded shirts and canvassers.

Plan the sign before you print it

The permit is usually based on sign size, so design decisions affect the bill. Before ordering a sign for a shop in Rumuola or an office in Trans-Amadi:

  • Decide whether you need more than one sign. A fascia over the door and a small projecting sign may do the work of a large free-standing one.
  • Check your landlord's and estate's rules. Some estates in GRA and Woji restrict signs.
  • Ask RISAA how size is measured, so the montage you submit matches what is installed.
  • Budget for the permit every year, not only in the year you open.

Common mistakes

  • Installing a sign first and applying later, then being billed for a larger sign than planned.
  • Paying a signwriter who promises to 'handle the permit' without seeing the RISAA receipt yourself.
  • Forgetting that a second branch needs its own permit for its own signs.
  • Printing opening-day banners and flyers without mobile advertisement approval.
  • Letting the annual permit lapse after the first year.

Each of these is easy to avoid with a single visit to the agency before you spend money on printing or installation.

A worked example

Example only, with illustrative figures. A salon owner plans a 3-metre lightbox fascia and a 2-metre free-standing sign by the road. A signwriter quotes ₦350,000 for both. The owner submits the montage to RISAA before ordering and learns the free-standing sign would add materially to the annual permit. She drops it, adds a small projecting sign instead, and saves on both the build and every future year's renewal.

Avoiding duplicate demands

Signage is one of the charges most often demanded by people who are not from the agency. RISAA was among the Rivers State bodies whose task force was dissolved in 2024, after reports about collection practices. Protect yourself:

  1. Keep the permit and receipt on the premises, with a copy at home.
  2. Ask anyone demanding signage fees for identification and a written bill from RISAA.
  3. Do not pay cash to individuals. Pay through RISAA's designated channel and keep the teller.
  4. If a council also bills you for advertising or signboards, ask both offices in writing what each charge covers. Overlapping charges between tiers are a known problem in Rivers State.

For the full list of charges a Port Harcourt business may face, see business levies and permits in Port Harcourt, and for footfall ideas once the sign is up, how to increase footfall to your shop.

Where Pryme fits

Paying permits and renewals by transfer from a Pryme Business Account gives you a dated record in your statement, and the Compliance agent can track renewal dates and prepare reminders for you to act on. See Compliance.

Questions people ask

Do I need a permit for my shop sign in Port Harcourt?

Yes. RISAA requires businesses that display their own signs, including wall, projecting and free-standing signs, to register and hold an annual permit.

Where is the RISAA office?

RISAA lists its office at No 51B Woji Road, GRA Phase II, Port Harcourt.

Do I need approval to share flyers in Port Harcourt?

Flyers, posters, banners and inflatables fall under RISAA's mobile advertisement category, which requires approval and fees.

How do I know a signage collector is genuine?

Ask for identification and a written bill from RISAA, and pay only through the agency's official channel with a receipt.
