Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Buying wholesale at Balogun market for resale

A reseller's guide to buying at Balogun market, Lagos Island: what traders buy there, bargaining, bulk pricing, moving goods out and staying safe.

The short answer

Balogun market on Lagos Island is one of the busiest trading areas in Lagos and is commonly used by resellers to buy fabrics, clothing, shoes, bags and accessories in bulk. There is no fixed price list: prices are negotiated, fall with quantity, and should be compared across several shops before you pay.

Planning your first trip

  1. Set a budget and split it: most for your proven sellers, a small share to test new lines.
  2. Write a shopping list by item, size, colour and quantity.
  3. Go early on a weekday if you can; crowds are commonly reported to build as the day goes on and before festive seasons.
  4. Carry a notebook or use your phone to record each shop's name, location, phone and prices.
  5. Bring strong bags and labels for your goods.
  6. Agree how you will get goods home before you start buying.

On the first trip, buy less than you can afford. You learn which traders are reliable and which items move in your area, and the second trip is usually better value.

What resellers buy at Balogun

Balogun is not a single building but a dense network of streets, plazas and shops on Lagos Island. It is commonly described by traders as a place to buy:

  • Fabrics: ankara, lace, aso-oke, guinea brocade and materials for aso-ebi.
  • Ready-made clothing for adults and children.
  • Shoes, bags and fashion accessories.
  • Jewellery, hair accessories, cosmetics and small household goods.

What sells for you depends on your customers, not on what is plentiful at the market. Before your first trip, list the items your customers ask for, with sizes, colours and the price they will pay.

Know the import rules on what you buy

Some goods sold in big markets are imported. The US International Trade Administration's summary of Nigeria's import prohibition list (updated April 2025) lists second-hand clothing as absolutely prohibited and includes most footwear and bags among items banned from import. Goods on those lists can be seized at any point. Buying from traders who can show where their stock came from, or choosing locally made lines, reduces that risk. Check the Nigeria Customs Service for the current list.

Bargaining and bulk pricing

  1. Walk the market first and ask prices in three or four shops before buying anything.
  2. Ask for the price by the dozen, the bundle or the carton, not per piece.
  3. State the quantity you intend to buy; traders price larger orders lower.
  4. Offer below the first price and meet in the middle; first quotes usually leave room.
  5. Agree the price for the exact items you have checked, then count before paying.
  6. Build a relationship. A trader who knows you will often give better prices, hold stock or send goods when you cannot travel.

Bulk pricing works both ways. A lower unit price on a larger quantity only helps if you can sell the extra pieces at your normal price within a few weeks. If not, the money tied up in slow stock costs more than the discount saved. Buy deeper on lines you have sold before and stay shallow on anything new.

Checking goods before paying

  • Open sealed packs at random and check sizes, colours and finish.
  • For fabric, check length, pattern alignment and colour consistency across pieces.
  • For shoes and bags, check stitching, glue and fasteners.
  • Confirm the return or exchange position before paying. Many traders do not accept returns, so agree it clearly.

Moving goods out

Traffic around Lagos Island is commonly heavy and parking is limited, so plan how goods will leave the market. Options include hiring a loader to carry goods to your vehicle or a park, using a dispatch rider for small parcels, or asking the trader to deliver for a fee. Get the transport price agreed before loading, keep receipts, and mark each bag with your name and phone number.

Worked example: a clothing order

Example only, illustrative prices. An Ibadan reseller buys 3 dozen children's outfits (36 pieces) at ₦3,500 each.

LineAmount
36 outfits at ₦3,500₦126,000
Loader and transport to Ibadan₦12,000
Bags and labels₦3,600
Total landed cost₦141,600
Cost per outfit (₦141,600 ÷ 36)₦3,933
Sale price₦6,000
Gross profit if all sell (36 × ₦6,000 − ₦141,600)₦74,400

If the reseller bargains the unit price down by ₦300, the saving is 36 × ₦300 = ₦10,800, which is about 15% more profit on this order. Small price wins compound across repeat trips. Prices also move: Nigeria's headline inflation was 14.63% in September 2026 according to NBS figures reported by Voice of Nigeria, so re-check trader prices each trip.

Staying safe at the market

  • Carry only what you need in cash; pay larger sums by transfer to the trader's business account and keep the receipt.
  • Check the account name matches the shop before you send money.
  • Keep phones and wallets secure in crowded lanes.
  • Be wary of anyone who approaches offering to take you to a "cheaper" shop.

Where Pryme fits

A reseller can pay traders by transfer from a Pryme account and keep a verifiable receipt. If you trade under a name, the CAC's May 2025 schedule lists ₦20,000 for business name registration with certified copies. See also opening a boutique and selling fabric, and pricing goods when the naira moves.

Questions people ask

What can I buy in Balogun market?

Traders commonly buy fabrics, ready-made clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, jewellery and cosmetics there. Walk several shops before buying to compare.

Is Balogun market cheaper than other markets?

It can be for bulk buyers who bargain, because many traders sell by the dozen or carton. Compare prices across shops and against other markets.

How do I bargain in Balogun?

Ask the bulk price, state your quantity, check prices in several shops, offer below the first quote and settle in the middle.

Can Balogun traders send goods outside Lagos?

Many will arrange dispatch or park delivery for a fee. Agree the price and who bears loss in transit before you pay.
