Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Are you liable for your spouse's loan in Nigeria?

Your husband or wife defaulted and the lender is calling you. When you are and are not liable, and what to say to a collector who will not stop.

The short answer

Generally, no: a loan binds the people who signed it, so being married to a borrower does not make you liable for their debt. You become liable if you signed as a co-borrower or guarantor, or pledged your own property as security. If you signed nothing, you can tell a collector in writing that you are not a party, and report harassment to the FCCPC.

When a spouse falls behind on a loan, collectors sometimes turn to the person nearest them. Calls start coming to the wife, the husband, sometimes the in-laws, with hints that "the family" must pay. This guide explains, as general information rather than legal advice, when a spouse is responsible and when they are not, and gives you a script for the calls.

The basic position: the borrower owes the debt

A loan is a contract. In general the people bound by it are the people who agreed to it, which is why lenders take a BVN, identity documents and an acceptance from the borrower. Marriage does not by itself add your name to your spouse's contracts. The lender's claim is against the borrower and against anyone who separately agreed to stand behind the loan.

When you may be liable

SituationAre you liable?Why
You signed nothingGenerally noYou are not a party to the contract
You signed as co-borrower or joint applicantYesYou are a borrower
You signed a guaranteeYes, on the guarantee's termsYou promised to pay if the borrower does not
You pledged your property or car as securityThe asset is at riskThe lender can enforce the security under the agreement
The loan was for a joint business you co-ownPossiblyDepends on who the business borrower is and who signed

Summaries of the Credit Reporting Act 2017 list assessing a guarantor among the permitted purposes for pulling a credit report, which shows how lenders treat guarantors: as people with their own exposure. If you are unsure what you signed, ask the lender in writing for a copy of any document bearing your signature.

Your credit report is separate

Your spouse's missed payments sit on their credit record, not yours, unless you are a co-borrower or guarantor on that facility. CBN credit bureau guidelines require consent before a lender requests a person's report, and you can get a free report each year to check nothing has been attached to your name wrongly. See how the credit bureaus work.

Collector tactics, and how to answer them

"As the wife, you are responsible"
Ask them to send, in writing, any document you signed. If none exists, say you are not a party and they should deal with the borrower.
"We will report you to the police"
Non-payment of a debt by someone else is not a crime by you. Threats of arrest are a pressure tactic.
"We will tell everyone in your contacts"
Screenshot it. The FCCPC requires registered app lenders to confirm their apps will not access contacts, and has said no consumer should be harassed or defamed.
"Pay something small to stop the calls"
Any payment can be presented as accepting the debt. Do not pay a debt you do not owe.

A short script

"I am not a borrower or guarantor on this loan and have signed no agreement with you. Please direct all communication to the borrower and stop contacting me. If you believe I signed something, send a copy to this number or email." Then end the call and keep a log of dates and numbers.

Steps if the calls continue

  1. Keep screenshots, call logs and voice notes with dates.
  2. Complain to the lender in writing; FCCPC rules expect complaints to be resolved within 24 hours or a stated time of no more than 48 hours.
  3. Report to the FCCPC at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng, attaching your evidence.
  4. If the lender is a bank, escalate through the CBN's consumer complaints channel after the bank's own process.
  5. Report threats of violence to the police.

Our guides on loan app harassment and who a lender may contact cover this in more depth.

If you did sign as guarantor

A guarantee is a separate promise, and its wording sets the limits. Ask for a copy and look for the maximum amount guaranteed, whether the lender must first demand payment from the borrower, and whether you were told about later changes to the loan. A guarantor who pays may be able to recover the money from the borrower. Being a guarantor still does not permit a lender to threaten or shame you; collection must follow the agreement and the law.

Helping without taking on the debt

Many couples choose to help with a spouse's repayment, and that is a family decision. If you do, pay the lender directly from the borrower's account or in their name, ask for a receipt in the borrower's name, and avoid signing anything new unless you mean to become liable. If the debt has grown through daily charges, ask the lender for a full statement and a settlement figure first.

Where Pryme fits

Each Pryme Personal Account is individual, and a Loan on Spaces is an agreement between the account holder and Solid Allianze MFB, accepted by that person after reading it in full. Nobody else is made liable for it.

Questions people ask

Can a loan app hold me responsible for my husband's loan?

Not unless you signed as a borrower or guarantor or pledged your property. Ask them in writing for any document you signed.

Will my spouse's bad loan affect my credit score?

No, unless you are a co-borrower or guarantor on that loan. Check your own free annual bureau report to be sure.

Can a lender take my property for my spouse's debt?

Only property pledged as security for that loan is at risk under the agreement. Ask a lawyer about jointly owned assets.

What do I do if a loan app keeps calling me about my wife's loan?

Tell them in writing you are not a party, keep evidence, and report to the FCCPC at lenderstaskforce@fccpc.gov.ng.
