Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

Using an AI sales agent in Nigeria: WhatsApp, naira and NDPA

Nigerian selling runs on WhatsApp, transfers and trust. How an AI sales agent fits, what the NDPA expects, and where the owner must decide.

The short answer

In Nigeria, an AI sales agent is most useful on the channels customers already use, chiefly WhatsApp and email: answering enquiries from your price list, sending quotes in naira or dollars as you have set, following up, and recording what was promised. It must respect the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, including consent and the right to object to marketing, and it should never release goods on a customer's say-so that they have paid.

A great deal of Nigerian business is sold in chat. Customers ask prices on WhatsApp, haggle, send a transfer screenshot and expect delivery the same day. The volume of messages can overwhelm a small team, and promises get lost between conversations. An AI sales agent can take much of that load, provided it works from accurate prices, follows the data protection rules and never confuses a screenshot with a payment.

How Nigerian selling differs

FeatureWhat it meansAgent role
Chat-first buyingEnquiries arrive on WhatsApp, Instagram and phoneReply quickly from the price list, log each enquiry
Price negotiationCustomers expect to bargainApply the band you set; above it, ask the owner
Prices that moveImported goods track the exchange ratePut a validity period on every quote
Transfers and screenshots"I have paid" before money arrivesNever confirm release until payment is confirmed
Naira and dollar customersDiaspora and export buyersQuote in the currency your rule says

What the NDPA expects

The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies to the personal data an agent uses. In general terms, you need a lawful basis to process data, such as consent or a contract; you should collect only what you need; and people have rights, including the right to object to processing for direct marketing. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) oversees the Act. The Act sets penalties for data controllers of major importance of up to ₦10 million or 2% of annual gross revenue, whichever is higher, and lower amounts for others.

  • Message existing customers and people who have asked to hear from you; do not message bought lists.
  • Stop at once when someone asks you to.
  • Record where each contact came from and on what basis.
  • Keep customer data secure and only as long as you need it.

Bulk SMS adds another layer, with telecoms rules on unsolicited messages; Templars' 2025 note on unsolicited messaging summarises the position. Meta's WhatsApp Business messaging policy also requires a customer's permission before you message them.

Quotes in naira and dollars

Decide your rule before the agent quotes anything: which customers are quoted in naira, which in dollars, and how long each quote holds. For imported goods, a short validity period protects your margin when the exchange rate moves. Nigerian freelancers and service firms weighing this can read whether to price in dollars or naira.

Worked example: a Lagos furniture business

Example only. A furniture maker in Lagos receives 80 WhatsApp enquiries a week, sells to homes and offices, and occasionally to diaspora buyers furnishing property in Nigeria.

  1. A customer asks the price of a six-seater dining set. The agent quotes the list price of an example ₦1,450,000, valid for seven days, with delivery in two weeks, as the production schedule allows.
  2. The customer offers ₦1,200,000. The owner's band allows 5%, so the agent can go to ₦1,377,500. It offers that and asks the owner about the rest.
  3. A buyer in London asks for a quote for an apartment. The owner's rule says diaspora orders are quoted in pounds or dollars, so the agent drafts the quote in pounds for the owner to approve.
  4. The local customer sends a transfer screenshot. The agent replies that the order will be confirmed once payment reflects, and production starts only after the payment is confirmed in the account. See how to handle "I have paid" messages.
  5. The agent records the price, delivery date and colour in the promise register, so the workshop and the invoice match what was agreed.

Deposits, invoices and getting paid

Custom goods are often sold on a deposit. Write down your deposit rule and what happens if a customer cancels, so the agent quotes it consistently; our guide to deposits and part-payments covers common practice. Every sale should end in a proper invoice and receipt that match what was agreed.

Speed without overpromising

Nigerian buyers often message several sellers at once and buy from whoever answers first with a clear price. An agent that replies in minutes, at any hour, wins more of those sales. The risk is that speed tempts it to promise what the business cannot deliver: a colour that is out of stock, delivery tomorrow to Abuja, a price from last month. Keep stock, delivery zones and prices in one place the agent reads before every reply, and have it say "let me confirm" rather than guess. A slower true answer keeps the customer; a fast wrong one usually ends in a refund argument.

What the owner must keep

  • Prices below the band, and any special deal for a friend or a large buyer.
  • Delivery dates the workshop or warehouse has not accepted.
  • Credit: selling now and collecting later.
  • Complaints and refunds outside your policy.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Business comes with five AI agents, including a Sales agent that manages pipeline, follow-ups and quotes, keeps a register of what was promised, and stops above your discount band. The account holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local account details, and Naira deposits are held by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, licensed by the CBN. Virtual accounts help match payments to customers. See also AI agents for small-business admin in Nigeria.

Questions people ask

Can an AI agent sell for my business on WhatsApp?

Yes, to customers who have contacted you or agreed to hear from you, within WhatsApp's policies. It should reply from your price list and pass anything outside your rules to you.

Does the NDPA allow marketing messages?

With a lawful basis, such as consent, and with respect for people's right to object to direct marketing. Stop when asked. This is general information, not legal advice.

Should the agent quote in dollars?

Only where your written rule says so, for example for diaspora or export buyers. Set a validity period on quotes for imported goods.

Can the agent confirm payment from a screenshot?

No. Production or delivery should start only when the payment is confirmed in your account.
