Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Safety

Your account was used as a money mule: consequences and defence

Letting someone pass money through your account can mean freezes, BVN watch-listing and money laundering charges. What the law says and how to cooperate.

The short answer

Letting someone move money through your account, even as a favour or for a small fee, can expose you to money laundering charges: under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, individuals face a minimum of four and up to fourteen years' imprisonment and/or a fine of at least five times the proceeds. Your account can be frozen and your BVN placed on the banking system's fraud watch-list; cooperating early and in writing is your best defence.

What a money mule is

A money mule is someone whose account is used to receive and pass on money that belongs to someone else. Fraudsters need mules because stolen money traced straight to their own accounts would be caught quickly. Moving it through several ordinary people's accounts makes it harder to follow.

Most mules in Nigeria do not think of themselves as criminals. Common routes in are:

  • A friend or relative asks to "use your account" because theirs is restricted.
  • A job offer that involves receiving payments and forwarding them, keeping a commission.
  • Selling or renting your account, BVN or SIM to someone else.
  • An online relationship where the partner asks you to receive money for them.
  • Agreeing to "help" a stranger who claims a bank problem.

The consequences

Your account

The receiving bank can place a Post No Debit as soon as a fraud complaint arrives, without a court order, under the CBN's 2015 fraud desk circular, as TEMPLARS' 2025 review explains. Law enforcement can go further. Olisa Agbakoba Legal's June 2026 review sets out the routes: the NFIU or SCUML can place a stop order of up to 72 hours under section 7(6) of the Money Laundering Act, the EFCC can apply to court to freeze under section 34(1) of the EFCC Act, and the CBN Governor can seek a Federal High Court order under section 97 of BOFIA 2020.

Your BVN

Banks report BVNs linked to fraud to a shared watch-list. Nairametrics, citing the CBN's 2025 Annual Report, reported in July 2026 that fraud-related BVNs on the watch-list rose to 13,117 at the end of 2025 from 9,476 a year earlier. The CBN's list of circulars includes a Revised Regulatory Framework for BVN Operations and Watch-List (12 October 2021) and an addendum dated 13 March 2026. We could not open the framework text itself, so we do not state how long a BVN stays listed; being listed can make it hard to open or use accounts across banks. See how to check and appeal a BVN watch-list entry.

Criminal exposure

The Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 is the main law. A Pavestones Legal summary of the Act says a person who contravenes it faces imprisonment for a minimum of four years and up to fourteen years, or a fine of at least five times the value of the proceeds, or both. Whether a particular mule is charged depends on what they knew and did. Someone who knowingly rented out an account is in a very different position from a student whose login was stolen. This is general information, not legal advice; a lawyer should look at your facts.

Defence and cooperation

If your account has been used, the worst thing you can do is go silent or move the remaining money. Practical steps:

  1. Stop. Do not forward, withdraw or refund any further money.
  2. Write down everything: who approached you, when, what they said, what you received and where it went.
  3. Keep the evidence: chats, call logs, the job advert, any IDs the person sent.
  4. Contact your bank in writing and tell them what happened before they contact you, if you can.
  5. Report to the police or EFCC if you were deceived; see how to report fraud.
  6. Get a lawyer before any interview with law enforcement, particularly if large sums were involved.

How to avoid becoming one

  • Never let anyone else use your account, card, app login or BVN, for any reason.
  • Treat any job that pays you to receive and forward money as a scam.
  • Do not open accounts for other people in your name.
  • If a stranger sends you money "by mistake", follow our wrong-transfer guide; do not send it on to a third account.

Signs someone is recruiting you as a mule

  • You are offered money just for "receiving payments" or "processing transfers".
  • Someone asks for your login, card or BVN to "help them out" for a few days.
  • An employer you have never met wants payments to go through your personal account.
  • You are told to withdraw cash and hand it over, or buy gift cards or crypto with it.
  • You are asked to keep the arrangement secret from your bank or family.

Any one of these is enough reason to say no. If you have already agreed, stop now and follow the steps above.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme accounts carry the same duty: the account is for the named customer only. Protect it with an authenticator app and transaction PIN (no SMS codes), described on the security page, and never share either.

Questions people ask

Can I go to jail for letting someone use my account?

Possibly. Under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, penalties range from four to fourteen years' imprisonment and/or a fine of at least five times the proceeds. Whether you are charged depends on what you knew and did, so get legal advice.

What happens to my BVN if my account was used for fraud?

Banks report fraud-linked BVNs to a banking-system watch-list, which had 13,117 fraud-related BVNs at the end of 2025 according to the CBN's annual report as reported by Nairametrics. A listing can make banking difficult across all banks.

My friend used my account and now it is frozen. What should I do?

Stop all transactions, write down exactly what happened, keep the chats, and tell your bank in writing. If you were deceived, report it to the police. Speak to a lawyer before any interview.

Is selling my account or BVN illegal?

Letting someone else use your account to move money exposes you to money laundering and fraud charges, and banks treat it as serious misconduct. Never sell or rent your account, BVN or SIM.
